We have a new 2024 vaccine thread here. New people don't need to try to wade through 20,000 posts to figure out what is going on.
if anything, this pandemic further separated the winners and losers in our society. Wealth and income inequality was already a big problem, and during the pandemic, this just got worse, much worse. The losers, having now lost more ground in climbing the economic ladder, want very much to believe the pandemic was planned, was not real or not a big deal and didn’t need nearly the intervention from government that public health experts thought- at the time- that it did. Service workers and people living in crammed spaces with strangers of unknown Covid status had to wear masks for long shifts/periods during 2020-2021 and understandably were more pissed off/personally affected than white-collar workers and homeowners who had luxury of working from home and did not wear masks…( or only wore them maybe 10mins to 1hour tops per day for curbside pick ups or grocery shopping etc. ).Like it or not there was a time when we observed many businesses refused service to the public if a simple cloth covering was not over the mouth and nose. In Americans’ quest to get ahead in the world, white-collar workers, regardless of stance on vaccines and Covid, had the luxury of going maskless working from home with ample space for social distancing, and existing homeowners were able to refinance their work- from-home places at under 3% or 4% fixed interest rates, sometimes rates as low as ~2.5% on a 30 year fixed. Service workers, and those trapped with consumer debt on the other hand were making bets on cryptocurrencies and meme stocks and likely walked away with no gains and for the majority losses according to many academic papers on the subject. But they look up to irresponsible people like the “prosecute Fauci”-tweeting Elon musk/comedians promoting libertarian coins, who during the pandemic recommended Bitcoin and Dogecoin to libertarian fanboys/worshipers. So if anything, the pandemic further separated the winners and losers. Perhaps that’s why the losers are so upset, cynical and skeptical of medical professionals telling them the truth. The losers in this thing are now angrier, worse off and more pissed off because they lost in more ways than one - they now face inflation and rising costs of the basic necessities (inflation is still too high and economist think it is likely to be a little while before they can get it down), and the anti vax nutbars have failed to produce anything that persuades medical doctors and the worldwide scientific community (the elites they despise so much with Fauci as the big boss man) to take vaccines off or to in any way suggest the vaccines are dangerous. So they are just trapped in an echo chamber on whack job podcasts and blogs. Now we also need society to pay for mental health counseling to try to convince anti-VAX to not be afraid of doctors, and/or not be so angry that they got conned by YouTubers and nutbar sources with massive amounts of misinformation. And that’s going to be tough to do.
The pandemic and post pandemic era has been one of the largest reductions in wage inequality ever. Due to full employment and bargaining power from low income workers.
Even many profitable businesses like letsrun.com that didn’t need money as well as ones put on hold like hair salons and solo massage therapy type businesses were allowed to take out these massive PPP loans. Some of these businesses didn’t need the money, but after all you take out free money where you can get it and to try to put it to use and get a good return on it.

I am happy for the highly skilled genX/millennials/GenZ willing and able to work as I think for a long time they did not have enough bargaining power, and were not getting paid enough…so a silver lining to all of this would be increased salaries.
OK, so the bargaining power for the worker has increased with more people dying from Covid or being sick from Covid (or being sick from the shots if you believe that as an antivaxxer), more people quitting the workforce, boomers retiring, etc reduce the labor pool and increase the bargaining power. But if times get tougher, the pendulum may swing back in favor of companies as low income to middle income workers are going to need an in-person job, even if wage not that great, to pay for the necessities.

Perhaps the stimulus stuff (PPP loans and checks to working couples under ~140k) should’ve been reduced right when the lockdowns ended (6 weeks after March, 2020) and not have continued for a good year and a half (2020 to end of 2021)because it may have lit the fire for inflation, but I’m curious to hear what you think

Will the getting paid more be enough to make up for the increased costs of housing and food many now face? I think we saw a McDonalds worker go from $12 an hour to $18 an hour in many areas.
& aren’t companies for highly skilled work beginning to give corporate employees less flexibility, and require them to come in the office more often, as a way to weed out, etc. & maybe the numbers don’t show this yet
There will be more of these pandemics . Time will tell how the public will react. Societies with trust in doctors, government, public health will do better.

911 was the "new Pearl Harbor" that was implemented and then used to remove many of our rights enshrined in the Constitution. That was 2001.
Then they brought out Covid and used that to remove pretty much all of the rights from the Bill of Rights, save the 2nd amendment. And took out small businesses via lockdowns (that did not apply to Walmart, Amazon, etc.) and set up vaccine passports. That was 2020.
I think their final push to completely enslave us will be much sooner than the 19 years between 2001 and 2020. Pre 2030 would be my guess.
Unless enough of us refuse to comply...which I don't see happening based on the comments we find here

I’m intrigued. I’d love to see a breakdown of how these rights have been taken away. I’ve listed them so you can give a one-by-one explanation of how each right was removed. I left the 2nd Amendment in there just in case you changed your mind about it.
Amendment I

Amendment V

No one was really restricted except for around six weeks lockdown. Things opened back up pretty quickly with the emphasis in USA on personal responsibility (it’s the USA way) for staying out of the way of this virus depending on your own risk tolerance. These types of decisions as to which businesses and schools should open at how and when were pretty much ultimately made at a local public health level and with local politics. The federal government and the CDC give guidance and recommendations, but the orders were from local.
Some small businesses got screwed (at least got PPP loans for a long time), but you can’t make everyone happy …& how you define an “essential business” is tricky. Personally, I thought in March 2020 that it was going to be so bad that food would have to be rationed and the military would come in to help distribute. There was this panic in March 2020 and the S&P 500 that month plunged to like 2200 or 2400. Toilet paper and Clorox wipes and workout equipment were hard to get lmao 🤣
"The losers in this thing are now angrier, worse off and more pissed off because they lost in more ways than one"
Correct. The vax pushing losers offer a "bivalent booster" that 80% of the US population refuses to take. They are also angry because their vaccine passport schemes fell apart. Angry because multi vaxxed people get sick and wonder why they are not protected from Covid (The latest example is the Governor of NC). Angry at people like me, an unvaxxed ZERO DOSE 63 year old who is robustly healthy and runs faster in 2023 than 2022.
I agree. The losers sure are angry.

Vaxxer need to drop religious exemptions and the need for consent, because the "vaccines" are religion to them and all heretics and heathens must be force converted with the holy injection:
Massachusetts residents have until 5 PM ET to sign up to testify against several bills that eliminate individual and parental rights in the Commonwealth.
Those numbers are heavily confounded. The CFR has fallen dramatically to be in line with flu and others. There are plenty of people who would benefit from regular boosting but the primary series lowers the risk to “acceptable” levels for most people. Acceptable being “in line with other common respiratory diseases. Talk to your doctor - as long as they aren’t one of those kooky antivaxx ones trying to kill you for viewers on their bitchute videos.
A lot of that credit has to be given to omicron (my initial point long ago). As you stated, Covid has is now relegated to a “bad flu season” by the combination of vaccine rollouts and omicron.
Give the credit as you want but omicron was not going to do it alone — without vaccines it would have been super deadly and the immunity effect would have been greatly diminished. But I think we largely agree
People forget how bad it was especially that first year of the pandemic ….March 2020 there was huge panic …S&P500 went down to 2300. Now we are up to 4500
- Young doctor in China in February 2020, late 20s, died from Covid … as did a number of other young healthcare workers in Wuhan, probably hit with a high viral load in the hospitals
- US grocery stores had no toilet paper (hoarding). They were also often out of Clorox wipes.
- there was very little traffic on the roads
- plane tickets were super cheap
- genuine N95/PN95 mask were almost impossible to get… counterfeit ones from China were widespread on Amazon
- I believe at the worst point the virus was killing one out of 100 people, age 65 and older?
Credit to Donald Trump for shutting the country down for at least a small amount of time. Credit to Jerome Powell and Janet Yellen for steering the ship.
And to Anthony Fauci, for explaining as best he could what we know and what we don’t know, and what we can do the best protect ourselves.

Lol the pandemic is over according to the WHO, Isn’t it? The medical doctors and the educated do not seem to regret getting 4-6 shots. Doctors knew right at the beginning when the vaccines were rolled out that they may not protect very well against infection. This message did not make it to the public though because I think the idea was to try to get as many people vaccinated as possible since it does help a little bit with preventing infection, and certainly according to the randomized trials helps prevent hospitalization and death. We prob laugh at this now, since the virus has mutated so much but those initial variants were no freaking joke.

The winners of this thing:
-people who remain healthy and willing and able to work post-pandemic whether they got the vaccine or not
-people who were able to maintain a level head through the tough times, people in jobs where they could work from home, and who were able to develop skills to keep themselves valuable
-people who own assets, especially hard assets, long-term investment in US stocks
-property owners who were able to refinance properties at absurdly low fixed interest rates
The losers of this thing:
-people who got hit with the virus and died…people with long Covid, etc
-people with mental health struggles and addiction, both of which may have been exacerbated by the pandemic & the lockdowns and who couldn’t get the help they needed during the pandemic and could only meet virtually with healthcare providers
-people on a fixed income source
-people who own speculative crud with zero intrinsic value (crypto vaporware coins, meme stocks)
-people who are victims of cOVID-19 misinformation and COVID-19 quacks
