The chance to capitalize on omicrons mass infection would have been mostly squandered without mass vaccination with effective vaccines.

True. Thus, as I’ve said several times, omicron coupled with vaccine rollouts ended the pandemic. Without each event, it would still be a pandemic or have taken much longer to end it.

What caused this excess of 1.2 million disabilities since May 2021? The obvious possibilities are long covid, vaccine damage, or both. I suspect that it's both. Unfortunately, there appears to be no interest in finding out.

Unless you believe that we could have prevented infection (zero COVID) this is obviously true.
Without vaccines the death toll would have been way higher. Sadly antivaxxers still chose to sacrifice themselves for political points. Good work comrades 🫡

Of course the death toll would have been higher without vaccines. No vaccine rollout could have conferred immunity as quickly as omicron waves did though.

What do you think would happen in the US now if a variant with the virulence of omicron (50% infection rate in 3 months) hit the US today with only 17% of the population having taken bivalent booster?

Totally fine. The vaccine has been shown to give great protection against severe disease even against novel strains. this is one area where omicron infective immunity falls short. It simply doesn’t confer the appropriate breadth.
Without vaccines a new omicron-like strain would be likely quite serious.
