We have a new 2024 vaccine thread here. New people don't need to try to wade through 20,000 posts to figure out what is going on.

I’m not even remotely clear on what you’re trying to say. You math is off by a factor of 100 if not 1000, and are we talking about all bad outcomes or just death? Also, are the odds the same for an unvaccinated, fit, 30-something tennis player and a 75-year old, obese, diabetic, African American male? Against the “dreaded” XBB variants which most people won’t even notice? So Djokovic has one in 5000 odds now against XBB?

Omicron contributed a good bit to population immunity! It also killed and injured a lot of antivaxxers. Nice! You guys really scored an own goal there.
Remember, three doses + infection is associated with FAR lower acute and chronic risks than infection alone (unvaxxed COVID is generally bad for you)
Better immunity AND less risk of, you know, serious illness. What a deal! All you gotta do is admit Biden and Fauci are right :)

I think 1:5000 odds of career altering 12+ month effects from an unvaxxed COVID infection is pretty reasonable estimate for Djokovic

A combination of vaccine and omicron ended Covid. The combination was effective in the west particularly. In much of the world, Omicron contributed to the end at a higher rate than the vaccines. Without omicron, or a similar variant, the pandemic would have lasted much longer even with the vaccines.

At my annual physical the doctors are still recommending the vaccine. Most anti-VAX though probably can’t afford a physical because they are too worried about surprise billing is my guess, paranoia surrounding medicine, or maybe Medicaid doesn’t cover.

The chair at UCSF dept of medicine recommends taking Paxlovid even if you’re healthy and you catch Covid because it may reduce chances of long Covid. He himself said he would take it should he get Covid, but you know I guess he must be paid off by big Pharma, right?

Most of the ones I know (medical docs)have had six (probably four of the regular and two of the bivalent, if I am remembering the timeline correctly ) and have yet to catch Covid. So They don’t appear to be dying suddenly. Personal observation is that the ones in my circle (medical docs who have been vaxxed 4-6 times) who eventually came down with Covid (mild case anyway) tend to live and work in high density areas. I don’t really associate with any anti-vax or know any myself IRL except my Uber driver (appear to be a nut job talking about Nuremberg 2.0 trials) and maybe my barber (she’s a democrat and said she only got two….based on false stuff she said to me as she was cutting my hair, I think she got spooked by certain whack job news sources and is skeptical of pharma companies etc).

5% of Americans currently claim to be suffering from long COVID.
I divided by several orders of magnitude bc Mr. Novak is vigorous and healthy.
