The dental athlete has to be up there with the worst personalities and attention seekers. He’s on £1000 a month from sportsshoes. He asked them about more money as he wanted to become a full time content creator and give up passing people water to clean their mouths! Sportshoes advised against this!! He’s now sharing content of him taking a kid across a finish line he’s raised awareness for… for his own look at me moment!
His videos are annoying but you can't argue with his running performance - although hard to not be a little suspicious of his results. To run 15 low for 5k, whilst maintaining a full-time career in one of the most competitive industries, hard to not think the only thing that is clean is people's teeth. Hoping I'm wrong but not sure we will ever find out as unlikely to get tested at his level.
No Children, no pets, no business. A dental hygienist, literally all he has to do is wake up, not think, eat, run, blow air in peoples mouths, go to bed.
they should all be doing decent times with lives like this!
im more impressed with those with children, businesses and older pumping out decent training

Agreed.
That’s what makes Mr Besters running results so impressive (and his times are a lot quicker than the Dental Hobby jogger btw)
Not only does he have multiple children but he runs a fitness business empire, whilst being well over peak running age.
Hes similar age to the likes of FOD and SirPoc I believe. His marathon time is quicker than Fentons despite being more than a decade his senior and starting later due to his previous life as a beer swilling, Ciggie smoking, city trader LAD!!
He lived his best life whilst young and then moved on to the running achievements
There was a moment in the FOD podcast with SirPoc where Mr Raynor mentions Battersea park and Nick Bester. You can literally see the fear in Sirpocs eyes when he says it and there’s an awkward silence before they chance the subject. The only runner to ever get the better of Mr Poc (other than that wonderful, sweltering London marathon last year where Mr Poc did the unthinkable and finally got a victory over Nick. Something us hobby joggers celebrated like a Geoff Hurst Hattrick) but Nick soon made the decisive blow in this gargantuan rivalry when he decimated Mr Poc at the big southern windfest.
Forget Cole, Fenton, Floberg, Donato RTJ, Dental, Hugo, Bowden, Woods etc etc - all these incredibly trendy, fashionable, good looking influencer types
The real hero’s and impressive runners are the working, older Dads still smashing out amazing times. Sir Bester, Raynor, Poc take a bow. You three are the true darlings of this thread.
Could not agree more with your take on this. The names of the influencers couldn’t be more bang on. All I would say is I hope they are making a path to success regarding finance in the future. Cole is a qualified osteopath so he will be ok if/when the influencer life drys up. Fry is from a privileged background (mother lives in Notting Hill).
I think there’s a shelf life for influencers at this age as there’s always another RTJ about to explode on the scene. The issue with the brands is they have kids running the influencers so essentially feeding the ego. FOD is what he is, solid man doing decent content with now brilliant times without the bells, whistles and begging pot. I like him.
He will never be a proper influencer. I will tell you why. He refuses to really push or promote anything. Even his own incredible book, which is just about the best reviewed running book of recent times.
You can tell he genuinely is baffled by the whole interest and he comes across like he's only half joking when insinuating FOD forced him. Maybe they'll do it regular. It'll be better than 99% of content put out podcast wise. Sirpoc has no clue himself, but he's probably the best thing to happen to hobby jogging in a long time. For many, many people he has changed a lot of fortunes for the better.
He seems like a normal dude as well. Instead of making a sob story and BS video when he dropped out of Seville, he went to get a beer, then seen riding a bike around the city cheering his friends on. Plus every single person who has ever posted here, Reddit or Strava who has bumped into him at a race says he truly is a top guy.
FOD is a good person to do something like this with as just about everyone likes him as well.
Anyway, I feel dirty making a positive post in this thread. I was actually going to post about hoe Floberg is genuinely making me angry lately and I have an unhealthy dislike and rage of a man I have never met. But, it gets worse every single time he posts or uploads anything.
If they did this regular, it would turn into the best running podcast in the UK I would imagine. Sirpoc brings a hell of a lot to the table. He's also in a position unlike the influencers, where he has written a highly praised credible running book, seems to be selling fantastically well so I doubt needs to push anything. Very relatable also for a number of reasons, but he's also well into his 40s now and I would imagine a good inspiration to guys like me around the same age.
I don't know what people make from self published books, but it may have even sold 5 figues or close in terms of sales and will sell for years, because it's just a fantastic book with a lot great things included.
I definitely enjoyed that podcast and they seem like the most normal people you will find.
Andy is quite open and I'm sure he will tell us if it'll be a regular thing perhaps even here. He's always pretty open which is why I think people like him.

He is the absolute stereotype Instragrammer - used to post some fairly modest content but as soon as he started getting a little faster and a little more attention he went all-in on just churning out the exact same attention bait junk as everyone else with absolutely zero charisma or style.

Yeah I’d like to see it become maybe a monthly thing. The book is fantastic.
Andy & James along with Bester are class and a great representation for runners over 35. Proper down to earth runners who love running.
if he was already flirting with like 2:28 shape then sure, maybe he sneaks down to mid 2:20s with perfect build and race day, but 2:23 that fast is brutal, that’s holding ~3:23/km the whole way, not something you just “level up” into in one cycle. feels more like a content goal than a realistic one.

Sirpoc is just a normal guy. I met him down at Battersea at the British masters 5k champs they spoke about and couldn't have been nicer. Didn't want to even talk about himself was just asking me how my face had gone.
But he's also a fantastic training brain and miles ahead of the curve when it comes to training over all the hobby joggers making content. If fod can make it regular with him it's probably gold. Fod knows how all this works. Not that his channel isn't already pretty good but this could be a fork to enter the podcast market which is pretty big. Personally I think all the best pods have two regulars who are the glue and then guests from time to time.

It's not hard to run sub-15:00 for a 5k/5000m with a full-time. When I ran for a club in England (and a Southern League one, but British League at that) about 40 years, we had several sub-15:00 guys with full-time jobs.
I wasn't that far out as an 800m runner, running about 50 miles per week (although a lot of it hard).

I think it’s the trifecta of being able to run a sub-15 5k, hold down a full-time job and write all the words in sentences so that people can what the hell you are on about that is really difficult.
George James clearly has ability but hasn’t run a marathon for over a year and has a limited social media profile. Suprises me addias sponsored him. We know how it goes though - if you don’t race on the big stage and bring anything to the brand, you’re gone. Then again, I scratch my head how Marc Scott secured Nike/NN running. Isn’t up there with Emilo, Phil or Patrick

Might have something to do with him running 12:57 for 5000m pal
