CMAC winner was a Matilda Torres runner in 15:25. His teammate was right behind at 15:26/27. I'm on finish line traffic duty so I couldn't ID who it was.
Looks like Hannah took the win over Fernandez. They both kicked hard when they hit the grass but other than that, they looked very relaxed. Unsurprisingly, they took the team title but I was surprised to see Bullard narrowly beat Madera South. They aren't at the heights they were at during Lalo Herrera's time but I figured they would be a shoo-in for second.

Definitely surprised with a team that young and have fast times not improve dramatically was a shocker. They were ranked ahead of Jesuit and Beckman by some people.

This isn’t a shocker to anyone who knows the Buchanan program well.
The “Alta Sierra” feeder program develops fast middle schoolers, and then as freshmen they come into Buchanan with talent and kill it, but they don’t improve much when they get older because I heard their coach isn’t doing a good job developing them further.
On the girls side, so many freshman go from scoring on varsity freshman year to JV senior year.
On the boys side, it’s less common to have freshman contribute to the varsity in big programs. They don’t improve much later on at Buchanan, which makes it all the more unsurprising that they haven’t made NXN in 15 years and never won a state title.
As far as Beckman, no one saw them as a favorite to be #1 until finding out at the beginning of the season that two transfers came in. Most people had Great Oak at #1 preseason assuming Westin Brown was back and healthy. He did extremely well at the time trial.
Being from my alma mater, I have no obligation to try to defend Buchanan of all schools, but I'm going to have to disagree with this take. You might be able to argue that recently they have had a bit of a downturn but to act like Coach Simpson and Coach Weaver don't know how to develop runners is asinine.
The Central Section team record that Matilda Torres took down at Roughrider a few weeks ago was held by a Buchanan High team from back in 2008. It was Jonathan Sanchez 15:12 (16:14 freshman), Danny Vartanian 15:18 (16:38 freshman), Heath Reedy 15:30 (16:41 freshman and eventual 15:14 PR), Adam Delton 15:44 (16:24 soph and 15:43 PR), and Carson Keller 16:04 (17:53 freshman and 15:58 PR). If that isn't proof of being able to improve runners, I can mention more!
CJ Albertson 14:51 PR; 16:07 Freshman Kevin Barnard 15:14 PR; 17:46 freshman Luke Sanders 15:16 PR; 17:33 freshman Kyle Alcorn 15:22 PR; swimming convert his junior year with 15:52 PR his first season Kelly Brewer 15:26 PR; 16:32 freshman Cody Brazeal 15:27 PR; 16:32 freshman Hayden Hansen 15:29 PR; 16:57 freshman Brent Maddox 15:29 PR; 17:39 freshman Fernando Cabada 15:33 PR; couldn't find a Woodward time his freshman year but he wasn't fast from my understanding Casey Burchill 15:34 PR; 16:30 freshman
This isn't even speaking to track times, but I think you get the gist.
My issue with your girls' team claim is that you're seemingly ignoring two things: the common occurrence that some girls get slower as they hit puberty, and that Buchanan always have depth. If you're top 7 and get 10+ seconds slower, then your spot could immediately be taken by any of the other girls who have PRs fast enough to score at any other school in the Central Section.
Salinas of Clovis East is leading at the mile. 4:55. Big pack behind him with Lott of Clovis North leading it. Looks like it will be a really good team battle as all schools have 3+ runners in that main chase pack.
TRAC is Tri-River Athletic Conference. It's a league final with all of the Clovis Schools and Central. Looks like Buchanan won on a 6th runner tie breaker by Jack Beauchamp!
Projected nxn finish based on best performance. For guys we have a potential of having barely 2 (griffin and caldwell), and a few others that could potentially finish in the top 50 assuming they perform at their best. There is a big drop off after 6th best California guy runners so it's safe to say these will probably be the guys going with 1 having an off day and not making it. Girls look amazing with a potential of 4 all Americans and Sadie and Riley are close to the #1 girl in the country right now.

I recommend more people put their focus on footlocker west. It is by far the easier national meet to qualify for. Getting top 5 individual at nxn is extremely competitive.

Sadie Englehardt- #2 (26th last year) Rylee Blade- #4 (76th last year) Chiara Dailey - #8 Hanne Thomsen - #15 (24th last year) Abigail Errington - #24 Summer Williams - #30 (82nd last year) Millie Bayles - #38
You either forgot about or ignored Noonan and Barker. Holly Barker seems to have had an iron deficiency problem and Noonan also had an issue, but both came back with a strong 1st place at their league meets among top individuals. Noonan barely looked like he was trying and definitely didn't try to kick. If their league meets say anything, they will both be back in national contention in a few weeks.
