1 - he is being forced out but they are politely letting him "retire"
2 - they will make a diversity hire for director
3 - With the power 5 likely separating from the rest of the NCAA, this is a good opportunity but likely will not attract any big name coaches from top 20 NCAA teams.
3) what about an assistant like Gibby at Harvard? Better pay, better job security, same conference, seems like a no brainer unless if he doesn’t want to move. I see BU job is open so I guess he could consider that as well and not move.
Bob Braman needs to ship up to Boston. With sons named Steven and Tyler...no brainer. Braman, Carpenter and field coaches would make more noise on an NCAA national level
What exactly has Jordan Carpenter of BU achieved on a national level?
In 2023 a BU girl got 16th in the NCAA 10k, then was injured for ALL of 2024.
In fall of 2023 a different girl qualified for NCAA XC but was injured and couldn't race at NCAAs and missed both indoors and outdoors. It is uncertain if she's even coming back to BU or if she's staying back home in New Zealand next year.
His 25 year old international male 1500m runner was 20th out of 24 in the East Regional semifinals, behind nonscholarship younger Boston athletes from BC and Harvard.
D2 RMAC coaching update that's decently big. Jon Poag has been elevated to be the AD at Colorado Christian, so now Evan Verbal, first big time successful runner of the program that helped turn them into a D2 powerhouse, is coming back to be the head XC/track coach after being the head coach at Regis (Denver CO). So the Regis job is open, and one of the best D2 and RMAC schools has a new head coach.
very much depends on the Ivy. Pay at some are very mid major 35-65k. Harvard has some higher paying salaries - let's say 100+ for a an assistant or two. Penn & Princeton would be next in line....65-85k
What is a diversity hire? Coming from a white guy, sounds like a BS excuse for why white men aren't in charge of everything. Why should white males be the head coach of the most diverse sport when there are more women's programs than men.
Yale Track & Field hasn't been relevant for half a century. Pretty bad actually.
New Haven is a horrible city. High crime and high taxes.
If you were really so concerned with what's best for the diverse teams, then you would be the loudest advocate for hiring THE MOST QUALIFIED APPLICANT.
Hiring someone just for their ability to check an HR box does a disservice to the people you claim you care about.
See #2 above. I just can't see Yale's AD hiring a white male for this position. The track program already carries a big AI load for the athletic program, I think they will need to start carrying more of the DEI load, too.
This summer will set a record in the number of coaches, AD's, and other staff retiring. Braman throws in an interesting line in the release about hoping the AD "reinvests" in track & field. Thus part of the big problem. Administrative decisions have cause FSU to overspend in football staffing. Cuts had to be made in the department. They are willing to rip apart the ACC so that they can pursue the Big 10 or other conference. (It is well known that the SEC has no interest in FSU.)

We are losing the real purpose of college athletics by chasing the big $. College athletics gives students an opportunity to continue their education, and opens the door for a lot of low income kids that would not have the access to a higher education.
Plus the drop out rate in high school is less than 2% when kids do after school activities. If the kids know that our sport has a low number of future opportunities, we will see a drop off in our sport.
Let's keep our eyes on the real purpose of sports in higher education. I know, I know... it is too much of an ideal statement.
Louie to Oregon Track Club - means Oregon State Head position will be open soon
The OTC is sub elite club for fun. Not a pro coaching job. Louie is staying at Oregon State. I don’t think he’ll even make any money doing it. It’s ti help the running community
Looking for some names for a coach who overachieves in a difficult situation- distance- who is getting it done in spite of the challenges before them- need names for a hire list
