Floberg had a slightly hard time breaking 3 and then came down steadily after doing it. (Kofuzi beat him to it at Grandmas 2022.)
His journey is interesting but the fact he has his own cameraman following him around is a little weird.
It's funny to me because the only guys who get mentioned on this thread regularly that I was familiar with before the thread were Kofuzi, Seth, and Ben Is Running; all from shoe reviews back years ago. I don't really follow any shoetubers/running youtubers anymore unless they're a pro like Giles or Morgan McDonald. The fun of this thread is I get to follow along without all the leg work of watching all the videos. It does make it confusing because I had to check if Floberg was the same as FOD runner who posted in this thread and I still get Ben Parkes confused with Ben is Running (whose name I think is Ben Felton). In general though I'd have to say I'm kind of impressed with the shoetubers, as I used to think they were all just "hoping to break 3 hour" type runners and I was shocked to see dudes running sub 2:30, even they subsequently fail to reach those heights again.
Kinda gives guys who started a few years ago in the low 3s hope they will get to 2:40-2:50 with consistent training and beginner gains!
How long was floberg at it before he got sub3? A few years? If that’s the case it seems really weird that within such a short timespan he’s going from barely breaking 3 to within the realm of sub 2:30. was his training garbage?

Kofuzi hoped to get to 2:40-2:50, then he met Sage and has been consistently 20-30 minutes slower than his PR. Yikes.
Konfuzied doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of running 2:40-2:50. He can’t break 20 mins for 5k with consistency yet people want his input of running apparel? needs to stay in his lane and review hair bands or something.

Be about it.

Kofuzi started lingering too much in his own fart clouds a while back. He started out as 'a very likable and relatable 'Joe Nobody' with some shoe reviews and should have kept it there. Those early show review vids were very helpful IMO.
Next thing you know his shoe review vids showed more footage of him selfie running as fast as he could. He's talking more and more about himself and trying to be fast guy. From there it was race reports and Kofuzi Running Circle Jerk Club vids and the like. Endless travel and selfie stick races. He never missed a chance to humble brag about 'relationships' with sponsors and shoe companies. He got on the pre-marathon talking circuit, etc etc.
The whole turn-yourself-into-YT-celebrity-and-cash-in is just as gross as the TV celebs like Dr. Phil and the Kardsashians created from nothing. Turning one's life into an endless selfie-stick peep show for clicks and cash hoping to become a third-rate celebrity is SO late stage capitalism. It's got to be a sign that society is going to collapse soon.

Well said. I watched so many of his Chicago videos before I ran it last year, and it was nice to get a local somewhat serious amateurs perspective on the course/race weekend.
Compare that to recent videos - look at meeeeeee I'm at a new balance/asics/adidas/whatever party with my fellow douchy friends who "worked" so hard to be here. Come take selfies with me!!
Oohhh here's the special VIP dinner followed by a VIP tent race morning with private crappers. This would make my race so much easier, but I'm not really here to race, just to jog along and make a testicle out of myself for views

To be fair, Kuntfuzi is only capable of jogging along. ‘Make him fast again’?!? When exactly has he ever actually been anything but a clueless jogger?

It was several years before he was able to go sub 3. But like a lot of people, he had the short distance fitness indicating that was doable, but just lacked the years of mileage to get the marathon times to catch up. So looking at his performances, I'd say it's been a fairly consistent improvement. What has lead to continued fitness gains since he ran sub 2:50 just a year and a half ago is he finally figured out the necessity of in between cycles and year round training. He was the classic "train hard for a goal race, then spend 3 months detraining" type guy.
I don't think he's ever talked about it directly, but if he wanted to make a good training video related to his overall improvement he'd talk about his increase in yearly mileage.
I'd also say he ran 2:39 this time last year, 2:38 this spring, and while he does appear ready to shave several minutes off that time in Boston, let's calm down on anything close to 2:30 until he does it.
Has Ko bought the Bib via the tour operator? Or was this the sponsor? I thought all influencers who attended the adidas event in Herzogenaurach got their invitation and sponsoring of the trip by adidas?
Matt Fox posted a 2x10k workout today @ 5 flat pace. It was point-to-point with a tailwind, so that may have helped.
This workout seems to be faster than any race he's done
"A tailwind" is an understatement, though - it was a 15-20 MPH consistent wind directly at his back. Laughable that that little tidbit didn't make the Strava log (nor that he drove 30 min out of his way to do this). That adds 15-20 seconds mile (and some resources say 30) without question.
This was a good workout, but please don't take this guy's BS at face value. He can definitely break 2:20 with a well-planned race and a good head on his shoulders, but there's no indication that's even in the cards.
don't forget that he was on 'all the [asthma] medicine the doctors would give me' which he very deliberately mentioned in his video

The disclosure on Kofuzi says that Sport Tours paid for the bib, travel, some hotel lodging and some expenses. I wonder if Sport Tours has been the one pushing YouTubers who a. Dope (and I think Kofuzi is a prime doping suspect! He was running 3:15s, then ran a 2:55, then started working with the notoriously anti-doping Sage Canaday and can't crack 3:10) and b. Have large followings. I had blamed the shoe companies for this whole incestuous situation but now that I think about is the touring companies have the most reason to make the races more popular and more restricted. It leads to more qualified runners being left out and being susceptible to Tour Package sales people.

Maybe Sage prohibits his athletes from using certain substances. (I think 2/3 of the big YouTube world is doping. We can thank Matt Foxx, the only YouTuber who makes Kofuzi look good, for that trend).
no. and the goal itself shows how little respect he has for the sport. tired of these bros.
People have no idea how big of a jump it is to go from 2:30 down to 2:18. Focus on breaking 2:30 first....then maybe talk about going sub 2:25.
After that maybe a sub 2:20....(if you're lucky).
If an athlete is already training at a high level for years and in their late 20s or over 30 years old this is a big chasm to cross....
I ran my first marathon in 2:22....it took me another 5 years and countless 100-mile + training weeks to get down to 2:18. I wasn't the most talented though....so there's that.
None of these YouTubers are the most talented. One of them admits to chugging Albuterol others are Creatine specials and still others are probably on EPO.

I think the % of Doping Running YT'ers is much lower and from my POV would never think a fit guy running 2.40 or slower would be doping - no need for anyone who puts in the work over long enough timescale, unless they've got really bad endurance genes. There's one sub 2.30 YTer (not from USA) whose PB profile which gave him a big financial boost it would seem always looked odd
