Hi Dan, big fan of the pod btw keep them coming
Love that they read the thread and took it in their stride.
Physiology of endurance running pod is the best out there, it's the antithesis to what we moan a lot about on this thread: attention seeking, bad training, dubious sponsorships and running fads.
I hope they never change a thing!
Hear hear - the podcast is a real gem and the antithesis of the runfluencer culture. Dan I hope to see you race a (healthy) RTJ in London!
The fact he got a scholarship does not discount his privileged background. I am not saying he's Brooklyn Beckham; in fact, I don't think he get the impression he's financially backed by his parents. All I am saying, is I think he has a big safety net that ment "running to Japan" was not a huge risk!
This is exactly it, and those who aren't from working class backgrounds wont understand it. Its not even that he was financially supported but he had the privilege of being able to take a massive gamble on moving to japan with no job or financial security, knowing that if all went wrong he has the safety net of his families money however much that may be...
Compare that to a council estate kid who has just got a decent job as a teacher making a good wage, they wouldn't be able to make that gamble because if it didn't work they would likely end up on the streets.
I'm from a working class background and think it is utter nonsense to be talking about whether he has supportive parents who would stop him being homeless on the streets. This is so typical of the British mentality. The comments were clearly meant to discredit what he has done with his YouTube channel. I don't even watch the fella, but why should we care if he was able to venture into the YouTube sphere because he is not living on benefits on a council estate? By an amazing quirk of genetics, he is also able to run faster than the vast majority of humans on the planet, so why not also use that to discredit him? It is such utter nonsense and illustrates the toxic nature of the British mentality.
Thanks to Haringey Council for retrofitting my old man's gaff currently with a new roof, windows, and doors. Long live social housing... get rid of that chip on your shoulder.

Floberg wore the $500 adidas evo 2 shoes for his 8k race. What a fkn clown lmao as if finding out more things about this guy can’t be more cringeworthy. Glad to know 3 months of ripping off just one of his “coachees” paid for those absolutely unnecessary supershoes. Oh how pathetic and insufferable he is
I respect Phily for putting out that goal and that roadmap as well. Again, I think that she's not going to make it (and she seemed fairly self aware of how difficult it will be, name dropping 10+ athletes she's up against), but it's nice to see someone throw out some genuine ambition but also post their plan for it, no matter how plausible we think the plan is. That said, it did make me laugh when she said she needs to work on race-craft etc - never seen a pro race less than she does, so yeah, that's a given Phily
I can't wait for Ben is runnings version of this, sat down with 'coach' and Mike Ashley to map out plans of an Olympic spot and opening up a Sports Direct store in Los Angeles.

Agreed, this was a refreshing video. Like some others have said, I think she's doing a good job of telling a story that her fans can invest in. She seems realistic and it's nice to see people go after dreams.
I do wonder if she really believes there is some simple missing ingredient to her training that's going to make her 7 or 8 places higher in the current British marathon rankings? I guess there is a slight chance if one of her hypotheses about speed, strength, becoming a world class tactician pay off.
It's a "big swing", but Mo went from not making world finals to being unbeatable in his 30s! He was at least racing and making world championships, though!
Salazar's ban is over; perhaps Philly could be his next project! Something like this could be her best shot!

They've all referenced it on their strava's (or had comments mention it) which is pretty great. They've referenced this thread before on the podcast, and obviously they had sirpoc on so I think they're pretty aware of letsrun.
Be stupid to not think all the influencers mentioned here have at least some awareness of what's said here - Phily might have a harder time keeping up with the reaction to her content across all her platforms compared to others, but between here and the snark thread there's not many places where its possible to get an idea of runners' perceptions that isn't inherently biased because its the comments of their own content.

I am glad the council sorted your dad's roof out. Hopefully they will get started on the terrible state of the roads next! However, this sounds like the classic Mat Fox “tall poppy syndrome” argument. Myself and the other posters were simply clarifying some truths! In fact, we all said we were fans and enjoy watching RTJ. He tells a good, unique story and I am interested to see how his training progresses with this new team. Saying things like “he is also able to run faster than the vast majority of humans on the planet” is sensationalist — it’s true, but I could also make a truthful statement that a sub‑18 5k places me in the top 1% worldwide of all 5k runners. The simple fact is, the “vast majority” of humans don’t give a s**t about running. Most keen hobby joggers probably can’t name more than five famous marathon runners.
In other news, it seems Matt "Big Jail time in Japan" Fox has finally burned bridges with probably his most stalwart buddy, Luke. Both have unfollowed each other on Strava, and someone asked about him on the latest Sweat Elite podcast with Matt responding that Luke is "focusing on other things for now."
This is a guy who stuck with Foxy through his jail stint. What in the world type of crazy sh*t did he do to finally alienate Luke?!?
Probably more of a question of what didn't he do when it comes to Matt Fox.
death, taxes, Matt Fox blowing up his friendships with those in the sport

I would change one thing.
I wish Owain would limit his use of the word ‘like’. For example, a sentence of 30 words interspersed with 10 utterances of ‘like’ is incredibly distracting.

Jake has some level of privilege but he's from Bedford ffs, not Chelsea or Mayfair. Its not like his life has been handed on a plate by any means.

Dont know what so refreshing about this video. It was clear, that the content plan is LA28 olympic dream.
What i still dont understand is the NY marathon. Is it because of a sponsor? Doesnt make sense. Also she needs a fast time in near future to get an elite field startblock in many races. Its not like the organisations of the big races are waiting for her ;)
Why no halfmarathon in the next months?

Both of the Brooms are struggling with injuries at the moment too. Future races in doubt.
Google tells me the key risk factors for getting a running injury are previous injury, rapid increase in training load, training errors, muscle weakness/imbalance, poor technique, worn out shoes.
Google is wrong. Everyone who reads this thread knows that the biggest risk factor by far is having a YouTube running channel.

It's more she seemed to acknowledge there is significant competition. For Phily, this is about as genuine as it gets.
I assume she's not running a half marathon as she'd be lucky to make top 10 in even a national‑level event like Bath. This would do nothing for her LA28 Olympic dream. Even if she did a Run Through event, someone like Holly Archer could realistically turn up and beat her!
The whole thing falls to bits when she runs anything with the word marathon in it, as people can normally double things. However, 5 and 10k means her marathon potential, or lack of it, is a little more hidden to the masses.

NY makes some sense - I do agree that she needs racing and tactical experience instead of just focusing on the clock, but I think it'd be better if she just focused on more local/national races and do a lot more of them.
With an American coach and clearly loving Flagstaff, plus a lot of her audience being out there in the US, I could see her fully moving there at some point.

Matt was on an Irish podcast the other day and criticised Luke’s training so much and said “I don’t think he’ll mind me saying this”…. Maybe he did mind 😂😂
