The very good teams such as Jesuit/Davis and Whitney/Oak Ridge/Davis always take it easy. They race arguably the hardest course in the state for sections so I would not really look at anything from this meet besides possible individuals who could qualify for state. I expect Saturday everyone will race all out at sections though and that will give a better indicator of how the SJS section is looking. Around 30-40 seconds slower than woodward park for their section course according to my historical data.
It's a two step qualifying process for no reason. You race the exact same teams two times in a row. Just something to make the section some money.

Why do you say its the hardest sections course? I haven't been there, what makes it so hard?

Most of the course is rolling hills with a large hill in the back that they do twice.
This is an xc race? No it's not. It's a road race with a few flat grass sections. Ridiculous.
Huh? Mt Sac is literally one of the only not road race type courses even with the modified course starting this year.
Switchbacks and Reservoir Hill is more elevation gain than like 90% of XC courses in California.
Grumpy must not have been talking about Mt. Sac. I'm pretty sure he isn't, especially with the "flat grass sections" comment that obviously doesn't apply to Mt. Sac. I have to assume he was responding to previous posts about the central section or something.

if you click on the gray bar at the top of the comment where it shows the time the comment was posted.. on the far right there is a re: ETD "name". Click on that, and you will see who people are responding too. He was responding to the video posted about Noonan's 14:03 run. He is right, considering it is essentially a road race. Noonan ran 13:39 on that course last year. So still a ways back from where he was last year.

The hills (other than the one on the back side) are not that big, but they are steep and constant. The footing is pretty bad for much of the course as well. Plus, there are 4 hairpin turns where the athletes come to an almost complete stop to go around them. There is about 260 feet of total elevation gain on the course, but none of the hills (other than the big one that is done twice) gains more than 20 feet.
Mike Scannell - pro coach of current olympian grant fischer and also Hamiliton HS team which placed 4th at woodbridge sweepstakes. I listened to his lecture and it was really interesting.
There is this part where he talks about pressure to be perfect and how that is essentially ridiculous - 53:00
Ayala (top 3 are only freshman, next 2 are sophomores). 14:37 14:57 15:21 15:31 15:31
San Clemente (all sophmores) 14:43 14:51 15:12 15:19 15:27
Teams could see a jump next year considering junior year is common for breakouts. I don't think they will be anywhere teams like Beckman, Jesuit, Mountain View or Matilda Torres next year.
My apologies, Matilda Torres is CMAC and will be racing in one of the two CMAC races. I don't know why I thought they were NYL. I'm at the meet and will try to update as I can.
So, the CMAC and NYL had a little bit of a shakeup, as far as team distribution goes. There are two CMAC divisions/sections now and Matilda Torres and Madera South shifted out of the NYL to the 1st division of CMAC.
Boys NYL winner was Emmanuel Valenzuela-Encinas of Hoover in 17:20.6 with Hoover winning the team comp.
Girls NYL was Eleanor Nushwat of San Joaquin Memorial in 21:31.9 with Fresno winning the team title.
CMAC division 2 was won by a Roosevelt runner just under 1700. I haven't seen the full results yet.
CMAC 1st division varsity girls run at 1500 and the boys at 1530.
