Fitness has nothing to do with fatness when it comes to Cross Country.
Not that this was a good idea, but in the 70’s I ate all sorts of junk, I was a state champion from a big state, won one if the three big post season races, and a lot of it was fueled by pop tarts, I matured in college, but high school sports are just that - lighten up a bit.

Yes they were slow. 30 guys break 9 now but only a few per year did in the 90s.

My senior year in HS there were at least 3 sub-9 guys in the state of Ohio alone - John Zishka, George Nicholas, Ricky Pittman. And let's not forget the 3 sub-9 guys ON THE SAME TEAM IN INDIANA...

I have read in numerous articles on the proper fuel and nutrition for cross country girls racing in high school. I have tried, desperately, to impart to my daughter. However, she comments that she will eat what the coach says she can. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there has never been any at length, in-depth discussion regarding such things as the difference between whole-grain pasta and white pasta, etc. Some parents even bring sugary snacks, as things for the runners to eat, immediately following a 5K, i.e Rice Krispie treats!
My daughter went through puberty late and is just under 5 ft tall. I felt his comment was targeted toward those girls on the team who have thighs and do not look underweight.
Important to note here, I thinkoh, that my daughter Twisted her ankle in the first K of the race but still finished, hobbling all the way. I have shared with my daughter multiple articles from women's Runner's World and she still refuses because it isn't anything the coach has instilled in them. I'm just a mom oh, so what do I know?
I ended up replying to his text with, "Less-fit? Insensitive, to say the least".
He responded by sending out an article on how to be better cross-country parents.
Am I overreacting? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts, comments, and how you would have replied to the coach. Thank you, in advance!
Why do you think "less fit" means anything other than less fit? i.e. those who aren't in as good of racing shape yet as others. It has nothing to do with weight.

Is that a serious question? My daughter's coach communicates with all the kids on the team almost daily over cell phone.

"Practice is changed tomorrow to 9am."
Those are just a few sample texts from the last week.

The fact that either can be true is an indictment of crazy moms.
If true, this is a " first county" problem. Little suzies who've been given trophies for showing up since 6. And snacks at half time for some crazy reason. Add parents who've supported that dilusion. Runs smack dab into the wall called reality.

Nice troll post but the correct answer would be to ask the coach why he's looking at times in XC, when the only thing that matters is place?
It is tough to be a coach these days when its not even what you said that you are getting in trouble for its how someone interpreted what you said that got you in trouble. No sane person is going to be coaching soon.
I have been trying for 2 years to come up with a way to tell my athletes that running 2-3 times a week isn't enough. Don't get me wrong I have some athletes running 6 times a week (I even had one kid running a couple morning runs) and then I have some running 2-3 times a week and those running 2-3 times a week are less fit and its like walking through a field of land mines trying to explain why the kid running 2-3 times a week and missing a week of practices here and there isn't getting a pb every time they run and didn't win a medal and didn't make certain teams and aren't breaking records.
You know the stupid thing about this is, it isn't even the kids not wanting to run its the parents saying its too much to run every day, or my kid isn't competitive, or my kid is lazy and then not bring them to practice. Be a fan of your kid not a coach let the kid do their thing they will do much better.
