I might ride along with you for that first 5k to make sure I keep myself in check and to lock into my goal pace- you have proven to be great at early pacing, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Also aiming for sub 2:40. Bib 4009 if you want to click off 6:06's together.
Sounds good. Look for the shirtless giraffe in the 4%s. I like to start towards the left side of the first corral, pretty close to the front.
Great, I'll look for you. I'll have on a blue/white Tracksmith singlet. Planning a ~45 second negative split second half.

That should work. Always good to ease into it.

Jumping on this train...looking for 2:39. I think I'm more fit but with the weather shaping up to be just okay but not perfect I'd like to be on the conservative side & go 1:20:15-30 for the first half and then drop it down in the second half (5089 + red polka dots on the singlet). Maybe a 6:15-20 mile 1 and then a couple of 6:10s through 5k and then 6:05-ish through the half.
The more the merrier. Just look for the giraffe.
Excellent - welcome aboard! Opening mile for me will be around 6:20, early miles 6:10. I'll get in the starting area with ~15 minutes to go and head towards the left rail.

The Weather
The current forecast in Chicago calls for a high of 56 F and low of 45 F on race day — perfect racing temperatures. Overcast skies should help as well, but rain (showers are in the forecast) and 11 mph winds out of the NNW (meaning that it will be in the racers’ faces over the final three miles) could slow times.
Rest easy folks. Brojos are saying it will be between 45 and 56 on race day. I guess every major weather outlet is wrong.
Huh. I guess the email I got from the Chicago Marathon itself that said their preliminary warning level is "yellow flag" due to temps starting in the high 50s and reaching 70 is wrong too. Glad the brojos are on the case.
they fixed it. I liked the old forecast better. Not a big fan of muggy.
The Weather
Race day looks as if it will be a muggy one, with temps between 62 and 65 F and 78% humidity per Weather.com. Add in 11 mph winds out of the northeast and the conditions certainly aren’t perfect for running fast.

I'll look for ya'll on the left side of the corral. The 6:20-6:10-6:05 & faster plan sounds perfect. I want to start off a little slower with the current forecast.
Hoping the temp stays under 60 at the start and drops a little, if anything. The humidity is gonna be huge. 90% vs. 70% makes a difference to me. I've seen it go back and forth but if it stays 70 that's not ideal but it's manageable.
Going to be hotter than 2007.
Here it says it's gonna be 63* F and 9,46 m/s wind https://sportnomad.net/event/chicago-marathon
I tried to warn all of you when there was plenty of time to change plans. Enjoy your slow times and steamy suffering.
This will be my 4th marathon. 63 and cloudy with showers would probably be the best weather of the 4. Next best was mid-to-upper-50s at the start, 60 at the end, full sun.
Perhaps not ideal, but also not terrible. Clouds and a cooling light rain should be helpful.
60s is pretty hot for a marathon. Performance starts to degrade after 50F.
Honestly trying to keep the energy positive but the weather has trended in the wrong direction all week. From mid to upper 50s to low/mid 60s and humid. Less than ideal. Still should be an okay day with all of the warm summer training but not what we wanted.
Not ideal, but still the best weather I've had for a marathon as well. The others were
-mid to upper 60s with rain and 100% humidity
-70 at the start line
-low 70s at the finish line
Maybe I'm bad luck.
This is my 4th marathon as well. After Boston this year I will not complain about a light shower and 60 degrees!
Cloud cover would help, as would a dew point around 50, but compared go the crap I’ve trained in all summer long 60 will be glorious.
Last weekend would have been perfect. Pattern is changing and weekend after this will be cool and dry. Seems like that has been a common occurrence the last 10 years where the luck of the weather draw was bad.
Dew point will hopefully stay under 60 for you. Just plan for some headwind on your way north on your way up LaSalle but if it's 10 mph or under it isn't a big deal at all. You'll feel it running through Lincoln Park on Cannon too, but it won't be like running right on the lake, the wind won't be constant. You'll get a bit on the the inner drive before the turn west on Addison.
Hopefully the wind will be even lighter by the time you turn north again on 23. Forecast isn't perfect but far from terrible as long as sun stays covered. Good luck all, don't let the weather ruin your confidence you'll be fine.
