People really don’t care if you ran division 1,2,3 or in college at all.

You're all too harsh on the slower people. Fair enough, you can't get sub 16 or sub 17 or even sub 18 without a lot of hard work but those times take a fair bit of god goven talent (cardio efficiency is mostly genetic) and I've seen people with the same volume of training as a 16 minute guy hit much slower times.
There's a reason ~20 minutes for guys and ~24 minutes for girls wins the local 5ks and that's because those people train harder (a lot harder) than you guys think. But alas, vo2 max is mostly genetic and most people here don't realise that only talented people score beyond 43(female) and 50(male).

Diet is completely overrated for runners.
The difference in marginal benefit between a 'pretty good' diet and a 'great' diet is pretty f*cking small. Eat as healthy as you can, but also realize a slice of pizza once in a while is not going to make a difference what so ever.

I would agree with this 100% apart from I have several food allergies (dairy and gluten) being the main ones and actually a slice of pizza would harm me quite a bit.
But for the most part, for the majority of runners this stands true. And pizza packs a pretty good protein and calcium punch, I even think that it could be beneficial for some runners to get the biggest pizza they can get once a week and pig out.
As long as you're eating enough potassium and iron- as a runner, you're sweet. All this requires is about 2 yummy large fruit salads a day and a large enjoyable steak for dinner.
