if you were doing 400m repeats at the track and a group of walkers jumped on and began to walk 8 lanes wide while you were resting you'd probably complain about that too.
Except you can't because most tracks are public. Only if they were walking dogs, could you get them to move.
you frankly come off as a bunch of mansplainers who are taking the side of a dude youve never met who basically approached a woman out of no where and interrupted his workout under the dubious claim that he was in the middle of something. youre prob all resentful that you cant just hog a bench or machine for 10 mins and treat each piece of equipment as if it is your own.
interrupted her*
why would i feel better about getting hit on?
okay, so you don't. But at least feel better knowing that he could not have possibly figured something so presposterous as he seemed to indicate (that he was on the equipment).
BTW, how long have you been coming here?
Didnt get upset. Was actually pretty straightforward with him and moved on with my life as previously stated; i am more annoyed at the responses i am getting than i was at that moment with him
sorry using new name because of posting limits with registered name
people who ask leading questions in furtherance of their agenda
yeah, no kidding about the responses.
I was only kidding about reading that in a book. Made it up.
Good for you, i would have taken his word, given him the equipment, and tried to forget about it.
Or not, but either way, i try not to let jerks bring me down though they often still do.
Keep doing what you've got to do.
Perfect, you pulled off the reverse troll. You don't see that very often here and you executed it flawlessly!
Bravo!
I hope you at least reported thebastard to HR.
lol that’s actually pretty well thought out and I really could see some dude using that tactic (though that most likely isnt what was happening here)
10/10, what is reverse trolling?
Being a woman, I only really have access to the equipment, what, 30-45 minutes a week, and that's on a good week. How can I be expected to have the same expertise as people who own this equipment and have access to it 24 hours a day their entire lives
Even sense my distance running days when I was 140 pounds I have always been the runner on my college team that was lifting by myself because when my teammates rep out at 135 on bench I was usually doing 225. It has not changed much but the worst besides having someone claim the equipment you are working out on is when someone asks if they can work in with you and you have 250 on the bench and they expect you to strip it down to 150 every set. Gym etiquette only exists for those that are polite which is about 10% of us.

lady it's like you want us to hate you. he probably wasn't mad or rude or anything but your terrible personality made it into a big deal. why'd you come here if all you wanted was validation? ask your friends (if you have any)
Agggggggree
So, your idea of good etiquette is that you set up with 250 on the bench (an odd weight to use, but okay) and don't want to share the bench during a busy time -- at a private facility? For how many sets?
I'd have no problem with you saying something like, "I've just got a few more sets at this weight, then you can work in with me," but if you were going to be on the bench for a long duration during a busy lunch hour I'd expect you to strip plates and allow the lady to share the space with you.
When I was in graduate school I worked at a gym where some serious powerlifters and bodybuilders trained. Guys that competed on a regular basis in their sports. I was running a lot and they jokingly called me "beanpole," but only in a spirit of good fun. They were almost without exception a good crew of dudes, and they would definitely have treated a female in the weight room kindly.

I never leave my equipment in the middle of a set if I want to keep it to myself so this would never happen to me. It would be impossible for someone to take a machine from me while I am using it because I am physically at the machine. when i walk away, i generally accept that there’s a chance someone else will use it and that’s fine
In many places, it's considered rude to do your recovery sitting at the machine for the 2 minutes between sets. Someone can easily spray it down and use it in between.
Yeah, I agree. I also don’t sit on the equipment for more than 20-30 seconds. If I am on the bench, I will superset with tricep dips before benching again. I cant stand people who just sit there hogging the machine but Im also not going to pick fights with them

you are not serving yourself with tricep dips in between bench press. this is dumb
you dont know my goals so not your place to say, but thanks for the mansplaining yet again
