Molly debut in the marathon in New York last year finishing third. That said, the marathon tend to affect speed. So 15:09 is a great time especially since it is her first 5K race back from the marathon. Expect her to be back to or close to her Rio shape by end of July.

Dude, this is Molly's last year on the track, after that it is all about the marathon. Molly is no longer focused on 5,000m. She even scratched the race for the olympics last year even though she qualified...She was just out there doing a speedwork out, and to see where her form is so far.

She will probablly run the 10,000m at worlds, and then it is off to the marathon world.

Though you're right for the most part, she did mention with this being her last track season, that she indeed wants her 5k AR back. This may not have been the best time to attempt that record and I highly doubt she believed she would get it this time out (rust buster), but she is definitely going for it this summer.

Huddle attempted to get up with the 2nd pack within the first 1000m but was in no woman's land and let the pack get back with her.

She just looks so out of place to me. In my mind, she is marathon girl now. Hell, why waste a year on the track, when she could have run london or boston, and then do worlds as a marathoner, or go do Berlin or Chicago? Her NY marathon run was sensational to me, considering that was her first marathon. I think she has the grit and toughness, plus track speed to do some great things at the marathon level....I really believe she has sub 2:20 marathon ability.

But, at the same time, I do understand her wanting to go to worlds to get that bronze that she should have won in 2015....She probably still has flashbacks of it.

Ditto all of these remarks. It's great to see McColgan progressing at the 5K the last couple of years. Those gals in the chase pack now have qualifiers for the WC. (No mention of that, like we got during the Oxy coverage).

Kind of a bad day at the office for Huddle. She doesn't wish to peak too soon but her baseline should be higher. Some of these gals have been knocking themselves out on the road, too.

Anyone know if Flanagan is going to enter the WC Trials, seeing how she is up for Peachtree RR on July 4th?

fair point about the marathon affecting speed, but she did run 1501 indoors at the end of February.

Hmm, I just took another look at the 2015 Women's World Championship 5,000m race, and ayana beat Dibaba with a time of 14:26. Dibaba ran this race in 14:25, and didn't appear to be at her best ( to me) after 4 or 5 laps.

Yesterday's time would have won her that 2015 race...Going into worlds, and if she decides to double again, and run the 5000m race, wouldn't it be smart to just use Ayana as a pacer up until the last lap or 2 to beat her?

If she plays it more mental than physical, I think she can win the double at Worlds

You're talking as if this was a PB for Dibaba..did you not know that she actually ran 14:15 beating Ayana the same year before world champs in 2015?
