Moderators on Trackie rarely approve any negative posts about Speed River, DST, or Guelph.
With regards to Guelph, I think their program has been exposed over the past year to not be as strong at developing athletes, winning CIS off their recruiting alone. Now we have many strong men's teams in CIS, and the next two or three years of XC should be fascinating: Laval has really strong program that has a consistent influx of talent, McMaster is always solid, although serial underperformers at CIS, Victoria will always surprise the OUA-biased crowd come CIS, and Windsor is excellent at developing athletes, especially in the mid distance. I also think U of T will be strong in the years to come, they have a strong recruiting class to complement the mass of first-years they got this year - and the coaches have shown they can develop solid high schoolers into near world class runners.

If you want to be the best then try harder and be more like Guelph. But you can't so go blog and wonder what it's like to have athletes make national teams. And don't post things that Reid says that's not fair, it's his money and he's not the kind of guy that cheats. So much hate.

Gillis doesn't seem involved with the main Speed River issues. His name was only mentioned in connection with Run Canada, and people's beef there seems focused on Reid donating $10k to the track thing and then receiving funds to help with his training, instead of say donating $5k to the track and having whatever fundraising go to an athlete that truly needs it.

Bringing up someone's wife is idiotic, so stop it.
Also idiotic is the concept that fans cannot contribute to discussion if they are slower than the athletes, so stop it Fred.
If anything, top athletes that receive support either through individual donations or government carding should be more accountable and held to an even higher standard. In that sense, it is partly our business what they do, in so much as they're getting government funding to do it, but certainly no business of ours what their wives do.

If you don't want people to pay attention to your biz then don't call the Toronto Star and Canadian Running every 6 months telling them you're going to bust JD's record!!!

Some of the biggest critics are from teams that score basically nil in the OUA and CIS championships while the target of their scorn and derision is at the top of the team title race, or close to it. Do these critics count? Are they really even competing in the same sport? Critics move on. Shaming champions doesn't work. They are too busy training and preparing for the next championship.

Guelph has struck me as really struggling to develop a high % of their athletes relative to the talent they have coming in. They receive a lot of praise, for example when Maddy Yungblut and Heather Petrick broke the ON Junior 5000m record in consecutive years that got some attention, but the overall development of these girls and many others isn't very impressive. It seems to be a school where some athletes really shine for a year or two then crash and struggle with injuries. Allison had a brilliant 10k a year or two ago but more recently was running close to that pace for 3000m. Good recruiting but poor developing, unless you're happy with 10 talented kids going in and 1-2 coming out. Similar for Western their success has really depended on transfers but their actual athlete development is pretty bad, but they get far less attention than Guelph so people don't really pay attention to them.
Laval is doing a great job and I think they have a smaller poor of athletes to recruit from than the Windsor/Guelph/Toronto type schools. Laval is probably the strongest development program in the CIS right now, for distance runners. Victoria men obviously did fantastic at 2015 XC and are a solid team annually, as are the Mac Men. Windsor is great on the Mens side but seem to have trouble developing women not named Melissa Bishop.
With so few programs having strong success actually developing athletes, the most successful programs will primarily be those that recruit the most talented athletes. The CIS could definitely use some new coaches, between this and the whole xc distance debacle where several coaches made some neanderthal level comments, there's not a lot to brag about in CIS distance coaching.
If my kids were entering high school, I'd make sure they learned French so that Laval can be an option for them. If not then Queens or Mac are the way to go, great academics and good coaching.

Trackie moderating seems pretty good. Maybe read the forum guidelines and make sure your posts aren't attacking individuals, but raising whatever concerns you have about the Speed River program, as others have done on there. So like from that big Chiba thread, don't go and post that "Reid is an $&%)le" but instead write that he shouldn't be on that National team if he has no intentions of racing the event. Instead of posting that "DST and Reid making the team however they feel like is such bullshIT," actually explain why that coach and athlete selecting a National Team without posting any criteria is sketchy and maybe link to what you think is a good example of how teams are normally selected.
