Rupp is a nerdy geek and introvert, not unlike 80% of this message board. He obviously knew the two reporters that he smiled towards, but was as familiar with the third reporter. The questions were less than pointed, but sort of annoying. That reporter was an amateur, and sort of a pinhead. So Dork meets Pinhead. Nothing more than that.
this post is more typical of letsrun than your stereotyped typical poster
The hate-machine of LR posters is so depressing and ridiculous. The reporter in question was asking yes-or-no questions in a know-it-all way -- blurting out extraneous information and asking Rupp to confirm or deny. I can't blame Rupp for not being charmed.
That notwithstanding, Rupp's demeanor was hardly standoffish. All he did was neglect to smile for a few seconds. Not a big deal. Too much ado of nothing.
I've seen lots of athletes not smile at a reporter: Lagat, Simpson, Centrowitz, and more. But Rupp is the only one who gets barbecued for it. The hate-mongers are so transparent.

The interview was fine. Rupp turned into Salazar.
Your post is non-sensical and ridiculous. It puts your hero, Rupp, on a pedestal he does not deserve. All barely smiled, he his best Salazar inspired scowl-face on. Big deal: no market value, and not worth what Nike pays him.

Nothing. Looking around while someone is talking to you is a classic psychology giveaway.
"In face to face conversation, we often look away from the person we’re speaking with. Somewhat paradoxically, the closer people sit to their conversation companions, the less often they look at them.
"But other factors influence how often we avert our gaze, too. When we are asked personal questions, or difficult questions, or possibly when we are trying to deceive, we look away more often. When we talk with someone via a remote video monitor, we look at them more often than when we engage in the same type of conversation face to face.
"So what’s the cause of this behavior? Do several different causes lead to looking away, or is the root cause the same for all of them? Perhaps we look away when we are feeling socially challenged. After all, difficult questions, or social intimacy, or the heightened social awareness involved in deceiving others could all lead to the same feeling of being put on the spot."

And, all of this would not apply in such a kinetic environment where other people are trying to catch his ear or eye.

different video? wrote:I must have watched a different video that you all, because there wasn't a single answer in that entire video that I thought was the least bit rude or unfriendly. This is the video you're talking about, right?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emWEjMmILE4You really can't see that he doesn't want to talk to Dave? I agree he answers, but he's short and keeps looking away as soon as possible, doesn't look happy when he's answering him, etc. I don't know whats going on there, but he was for sure showing he did not like the interviewer. However, I actually don't think there is anything wrong with what he did as he did still answer despite not liking the guy. Everyone is allowed to dislike people.
What I want to know is do they know each other and what's going on between them??
I've met Rupp, and I've met Dave, and I can say they are both class acts.
Dave sometimes wears NOP gear, and is very thin. Same with Rupp. ;)
'Do you think Nick Symmonds would ever give a weak interview like that? Nope. Even if it was to someone he had a problem with, he would first call them out on camera, then proceed to answer any question they have, with more than curt answers'
Yes Symonds was very elaborate on how he was refusing to represent his country

Except that's a lie and you're stupid.
