A lion or bear hound is sniffing out a trail and not moving very quickly. The hunters and horses struggling to keep up is a moot point. That's no terrain for horses and certainly not for a horse with a fat dude riding him.
A Jackrabbit also dodges which impedes the running ability of the hound. Watch a Gazelle chase to see what they can do in a straight line.
Nonsense...You've heard of fast twitch and slow twitch fibers? I have a staghound/greyhound that I run on rabbits and other varmints and I know what I'm talking about. The lion and bear hunters are not "fat dudes"...They are mostly cowboy types and outfitters. A jackrabbit dodging has no bearing on a dogs endurance, my dog has run countless rabbits, coyotes, deer etc. I belong to several websites devoted to coursing hounds and scent hounds, you are pretty clueless really.
Hard to believe you are that dumb then. Dodging and changing direction isn't energy costly? Oooookay.
Try it in your next race.
Your dog is a Lurcher. We had one when I was a kid. Great dog but no Saluki.
Try again.
