It's speed and lots of it that is proving to be the difference maker. Centrowitz found that out in the last 300m when a whole host of athletes blew by him. Tempo runs after a race ain't helping you here, son.
You obviously have no concept of basic Exercise Physiology principles. Read up on the "Size Principle". You first recruit slow twitch fibers. If you work them long enough to tire them, then you start to recruit fast twitch fibers. Hence, the believe in "LSD" training and how it develops speed too. Take it a step further- do some LSD training (2+ hrs) and then sprint at the end (or progression run/tempo effort).

However, if t recruit those fast twitch doing long runs you make them for fatigue resistant. You need to do the speed work (working above lactate threshold) to recruit them and maintain their ability to produce force rapidly as needed in sprint.
