I'm not going to blame running for my problems. I have used it as a crutch (and still do) but I'm not blaming the running itself.
I started running at the end of 2019, but I had no idea what I was doing. By 2021 I was jogging 70 MPW, but I wasn't doing any workouts so I never got the most out of it. I was doing 10 hours a week and was addicted to strava. I should really have been doing a course or something else with my time during the lockdown. I always run alone, so I didn't make any friends either.
A major mistake came at the end of 2021 when I started doing reps. I hammered them and did something to my left knee. I felt a downwards pull and have since had intermittent pain (it's been 4 years). An x-ray and 2 MRIs show no issues, but the pain persists. Physios tell me to strengthen my quads blah blah. I REALLY wish I didn't hammer those workouts.
In 2022 I ran too much with too many workouts, developed hamstring tendinopathy and ran through it. Also strained my adductor and developed shin splints. Eventually I had no choice but to stop and didn't run for 6 months and didn't race at all in 2023. I came back on lower mileage in 2024 and ran PBs.
To date I still have the knee issue and I'm riddled with tendonitis. I am working to try and get my body back to baseline. I have many days off. I still enjoy figuring out what works and what doesn't.
