The answer to this depends on a lot of factors. First of all, what kind of tiger are we talking about? Male or female? Indochinese, Sumatran, Bengal or Siberian? Also how big is the enclosure? The larger the enclosure the easier it would be for the tiger.

Here's a few scenarios and how I think they would play out.

10 NFL players versus a female Sumatran tiger in a small enclosure? NFL players win easily. We're talking about 200 lbs versus 2500 lbs. A few guys would get the shit swiped out of them and maybe one or two would get some fangs to the jugular but the overall mass of football players would overpower the tiger easily.

10 NFL players versus a male Bengal or Siberian tiger in a large enclosure? NFL players would be systematically hunted down and slaughtered. These tigers can get up to 850 lbs and have been known to take down brown bears. Not even a contest.

10 NFL players versus a male Bengal or Siberian tiger in a very small enclosure? I'd still probably go with the tiger. The only way the football players could win would be to have a couple players distract it allowing another player to come up behind and kick hard in the balls. Once the tiger is somewhat incapacitated the remaining players pile on it and subdue it with their mass and finally they might be able to strangle it. This strategy would be very tough to pull off and would only work if a couple of the players are willing to sacrifice themselves.

Props to the OP for coming up with a thread that was probably the most underestimated. I had no idea this thread would get so many hits.

To those folks who think that no number of humans could take down a tiger, you are simply mistaken. With a thousand men they could just keep on coming at it. Wave after wave would get killed but everything (even a tiger) gets tired. Sooner or later it would become completely exhausted and this is when the humans could take it down.

I agree, great thread. The thing that everyone seems to be missing is that sheer human brains, etc is not enough. If you are going to kill a tiger, you have to do it with love. Nothing else is going to work. Tigers need a hug from time to time, too..

That was just a snack>. A big Gaur requires that the Tiger warm-up.

Also that Gaur is far over 800 lbs.

We all agree that man's intelligence is the best weapon that these ten poor souls possess. So here are some questions to help devise a strategy.

1. Is there any way that ten big guys could enter and be in the enclosure that would not pose a threat to the tiger? The moment the tiger feels threatened the danger increases 1000x. So let's avoid that. The dream scenario is if they could approach it without the tiger feeling threatened. As stupid as it sounds, would approaching backwards help? No eye contact for sure. Crawl in a zig zag? Walking right at a tiger with a mofo look on your face is certain death.

2. Is a tiger less aggressive after eating a big meal? Two big meals? Three?

3. Are a male tigers balls on the outside under these hunting type scenarios? I think this is pertinent because I agree that a kick to the balls is one of Earth's great equalizers. I could take out a blue whale if I could scuba up to it and go Rocky Balboa on it's double speed bag. But not if they are stuck up in the body.

4. Would it help to have the tiger shaved ahead of time? I think that makes a difference.

I agree that intelligence is the big advantage for humans but we're talking football players. Those guys can't even improvise a play in the game they play.
