Not true. The rules are different for having a relationship you with a Student you have authority / control over versus any Student. It is an Authority Role or not that makes them different. Not Male vs Female.

Having sex with random students is entirely different from having sex/relationships with the athletes you coach.

From reading the article, it was apparent that he was using his power and influence as coach to manipulate, threaten, coerce certain behaviors (e.g. sex, covering for him). I believe one exchange described him threatening to pull a scholarship and/or degrading/demeaning the woman to get his way. This is no different that sexual harassment in the workplace.

Doesn't exactly take deep knowledge of the female psyche to appreciate the part of the story no one seems to recognize. The runner who turned the coach in wasn't acting out of concern or anything close. She was stone cold JEALOUS that the coach was with some other chick, someone she apparently knew. EVERYONE knows that women in that situation, vieing for the attention of a respected authority figure and mentor they also happen to have the hots for, do NOT look out for each other, they look to DESTROY each other. Yes, women are famously competetive that way, twice as vicious and underhanded as guys could ever be in the same situation. Go ahead and deny that.

Just look at the obvious, this chick could have gone right to the AD if she were not interested in Hadsell, instead she buys him a bobble headed voodoo doll (WTF??) and continues to serve as his confidante. Then suddenly she turns a 180. Why? Not because he was angling to screw her, which at some level he may have and sure wanted to, but because he WOULDN'T. And my bet is that the guy could have said this but for obvious reasons is choosing not to...and no, I am not Hadsell or anyone involved, just someone with a lot more brains than the typical drooling baboon here.

when I was on a recruiting visit with Coach Hadsell he looked after me really well. Too bad things things prevented me from attending college that semester because I would have loved the opportunity to be trained by him. A lot of the people mouthing off on here do not know him and should not pass judgement. I continue to stay in contact with him because he is genuinely a lovely person.

While you're at it, please tell us how women that get raped are only getting what they deserve by dressing up like sluts.

That is exactly right. I was responding to a question about Men vs Women - Major Applewhite vs Bev Kearney. They were not the same. They were different relationships. It is totally about power and authority.

He wouldn't want to "screw her?" Did you read the texts where he repeatedly propositions her, and she ignores it entirely? He desperately wanted to hook up with her. She went along with his texts, WHILE launching the investigation.

So Emma came up with this whole entire scam to ruin Hadsell because she was jealous of him sleeping with her roommate? No, i don't think her to be the diabolical genius you make her out to be. Read the texts, Hadsell openly said he wanted her. Done and done.

She has skewed and distorted the whole situation because Kevin chose the roommate over her. She COULD NOT HANDLE NOT BEING THE FAVORITE. She is obsessed with attention and she is finally getting the attention she craves. Not only this, but this "in crowd" deadspin talks of was invented by her.

Yep. Something is rotten in Denmark on this one. Seems strange that she would hold off so long before coming forward. Reeks of jealousy...He may not be an exemplary man but it seems like he is being unjustly crucified. The deadspin article is obviously biased.

1. Coach Hadsell did not ignore Emma for her "running on a scheduled day off". What really happened.. .and why he was telling her to "get it together" was simply because she was leading an unhealthy lifestyle involving an out of control eating disorder. She ran 3 times a day and her teammates had heard her throwing up after meals. Most NCAA teams won't even allow athletes to continue to compete if they know their athletes are unhealthy in that way, so in all actuality, he was doing her a favor.

2. Also, if this was going on years ago, as claimed by Emma, why wasn't something said then? Why now? What is the gain from this situation other than to cry wolf and for this ex-NCAA athlete to further her career by making a name for her? Pretty lame name if you ask me.

3. AND THIS IS THE BEST PART... I have seen those text messages. For anyone who has a smart phone, you do realize that you can go back and edit those text messages, right? You can even delete a whole chain of them to make it look like someone is saying something they are really not.

I am not going to sit here and claim things I don't know. I won't fight a battle without ammunition. But lets be honest here. It takes two to make something happen. What Coach Hadsell did was definitely out of line, and he is aware of that. What most people are failing to understand is that Emma is not a victim in this situation. Whatever her reasoning may be, she is tarnishing the man who made her for selfish reasons only.

THE TRUTH ALWAYS COMES OUT IN THE WASH. Give it time people. I promise you.

Wasn't this exact story around 10 years ago at the same school with a certain runner who famously missed the first water jump in a steeplechase?

Former MAC athlete here. I may not have personal first hand info on this topic, but this is an open forum and here is my opinion...welcome to 2013 blogging. People who have done wrong don't deserve to be protected. From what I have read online and know of the people involved i have no remorse for either side. Hadsell is a pig. Every woman who competed/currently competes in the MAC has ALWAYS seen him for the pervert he is. I still have no idea how/why any girl could have been blind enough during their recruiting visit not to see that. With that said, Emma doesn't seem to be a pure and clean "victim" or hero. Her texts make it seem like she played right along; wilingly. Thanks for getting rid of him but I rank how you (Emma) did it the same way I rank how Lebron left Cleveland: low and selfish.

There is no justification for what "Coach" Hadsell did here. The fact that Toledo let it go on for so long reflects poorly on them as well.

I sincerely hope he never coaches again. Shame on you, Kevin, for bringing disrepute to our sports and to the University of Toledo. And for God's sake, please stop blaming the student-athletes involved. It's rather simple, if you don't date them and act like their peer/buddy, then you wouldn't have had these issues. Grow up, own it, and get some counseling to fix your distorted view of life. You don't deserve the title of coach.

See this is how things get out of hand. You have a guy that has sex with grown women, and some Ahole starts tossing around the word "rape". That's pure BS.
