NYC marathon and hurricane

Has anyone heard from what the elites are doing to get to NYC? Most of them are getting paid to just toe the line, so I'm sure they want to make it there! But, if flights are cancelled, what ever are they to do...? Maybe they can just run into town

Yes, I heard some (not sure how many of them) were re-routed to Chicago and are going to fly into NY Thurday night. The race organizers are doing all of this for them.

Thursday subways coming online.

Still nothing between manhattan and brooklyn, which is bad for the marathon. And nothing to the battery. And the Staten Island ferry - no word on that.

N.Y.C.T. SUBWAY SERVICE:

1 trains will operate local between 242nd Street (Bronx) and Times Square-42nd Street.

2 trains will operate between 241st Street (Bronx) and Times Square-42nd Street, with express service between 96th Street and Times Square.

3 trains are suspended.

4 trains will operate in two sections making all local stops:

• Between Woodlawn (Bronx) and Grand Central-42nd Street

• Between Borough Hall and New Lots Avenue

5 trains will operate express in Brooklyn between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Flatbush Avenue.

6 trains will operate local between Pelham Bay Park and Grand Central-42nd Street.

7 trains are suspended.

42nd Street Shuttle S trains will operate between Times Square and Grand Central.

A trains will operate in two sections making all local stops:

• Between 168th Street (Manhattan) and 34th Street-Penn Station

• Between Jay Street/MetroTech and Lefferts Blvd.

B and C service is suspended.

D trains operate in two sections:

• Between 205th Street (Bronx) and 34th Street-Herald Square making all local stops

• In Brooklyn, between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Bay Parkway making express stops between Pacific Street and 36th Street

E trains are suspended.

F trains operate in two sections making all local stops:

• Between 179th Street (Queens) and 34th Street-Herald Square

• In Brooklyn, between Jay Street-MetroTech and Avenue X

G trains are suspended.

J trains operate between Jamaica Center and Hewes Street making all local stops.

L trains operate between Broadway Junction and rockaway Parkway making all local stops.

M trains operate between Myrtle Avenue-Broadway and Metropolitan Avenue.

N trains operate between Ditmars Blvd. (Queens) and 34th Street-Herald Square making all local stops.

Q trains are suspended.

R trains operate in Brooklyn between Jay Street-MetroTech and 95th Street making all local stops.

Wittenberg just spoke at length at the press conference and sounded upbeat that the race would be held!!! Ultimately, it's up to the Mayor.

I had rescheduled my flight from Phoenix on Thursday, but my layover flight from DC to [New York] has been cancelled. So once my wife and I get to DC, we are planning on taking an Amtrak the rest of the way to Penn Station.

Someone needs to tell Arciniaga that Amtrak is down, too.

I saw that too. I think his only option is renting a car in D.C. and driving over. And need to have 3+ in the car because all bridges will be HOV for some time.

It a crazy way it's perfect to have the marathon at the endo\ of this week. It gives the Mayor and city agencies a goal/target date to get things working again.

FloTrack just tweeted the marathon is on.

That's nice and all but 9/11 actually affected a much smaller area (size wise) and the marathon was 2 months removed from it.

Yeah, cause just trying to get things working "as soon as possible" just wasn't as good as having a target date!

If I don't go to NYC (assuming I can get there), I lose $200 on the entry fee and almost $400 at the hotel. The rest of the hotel and the airfare will show as a "credit" on my Southwest account. It seems as though all hotels there have a cancellation fee of one night's stay, regardless of when it is cancelled. I realize the problems are minimal compared to the people on the east cost, but it's a tough decision to make.

Yeah, at some point I plan on bandit-ing NYC. No need to start on Staten Island. I can just stay with friends in Brooklyn and catch up with the marathon somewhere on Long Island.Besides, the marathon misses the lower part of Manhattan... Times Square, the Empire State Building, Wall Street, etc. Then I can complete the "loop" over the Brooklyn Bridget.

Following Wednesday's announcement by Mayor Bloomberg, the ING New York City Marathon will proceed on Sunday, November 4. This year's marathon is dedicated to the City of New York, the victims of the hurricane, and their families.

We're adjusting Marathon Day plans as a result of the storm's impact on our operations and resources. At every turn, we will be working to ensure that our planning doesn't affect any recovery efforts.

As a result, our sole focus is now on Marathon Sunday and therefore we have:

• Canceled Friday night's Marathon Opening Ceremony and Saturday's NYRR Dash to the Finish Line 5K

• Revised our cancellation policy

• Extended number pick-up hours at the expo

• And established ways for everyone to give back through charitable donations

There will be substantial modifications to the logistics and operations of the race, including the transportation plan, due to the impact of the storm. 2012 Revised Cancellation Policy

We've revised the cancellation policy for the 2012 ING New York City Marathon. Runners who are forced to cancel this year because they are unable to reach NYC due to weather will be eligible for guaranteed entry to the 2013 race, even if they also cancelled in 2011. Also, runners may now cancel online, by e-mail, or by mail, until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, or in in person at the expo until 5:00 p.m. EDT on that date. Please visit our Cancellation Policies page and follow the guidelines if you need to cancel your entry this year. Please be aware that the revised policy is for 2012 only, and that our no-refund policy in the event of cancellation this year remains in place.

Extended Number Pickup Hours

Given transportation issues resulting from the storm, we're extending the hours to pick up your race materials at the ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo. The expo will be open:

• Thursday, November 1, and Friday, November 2: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• Saturday, November 3, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with bib pickup available from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.

• Those who are not able to arrive at the Jacob Javits Convention Center by 10:00 p.m. on Saturday should call 212.423.2252 or e-mail
