UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND CUTS MEN'S INDOOR AND OUTDOOR TRACK TEAMS!

You can watch the forum from last night. The video from the meeting the the University President. He was shouting at times and clearly rattled by the questions that he had no answers for.

Wow, this thread died an untimely death. I guess the A.D. was right. After a couple weeks of bad press, life will get back to normal.Richmond guys, please update if there is anything new. Good luck at regionals.

So, we have some more news about the UR programs getting cut. Men's soccer is also being cut, but wait for it....

...these teams are being cut to add LACROSSE! WTF? Matter of fact, a report came out saying that they could add lacrosse and still keep all of the XC/track, and soccer teams...but they cut them anyway because of supposed financial constraints. Shady dealings really...

It looks like Football was a big part of the school's decision, along with the addition of Lacrosse.

This morning, the Richmond Times Dispatch had a small article called, "Football roster continues to grow"

It then says, "In recent years, UR's roster size has been in the low 80s, and lack of depth has been an issue"

The Football coach says he is very motivated to get to 90 or 90 plus.He is quoted saying, "I feel comfortable that that number works here, in terms of Title IX and support with our administration"

I guess it was mush easier, in regards to Title IX, for Richmond to ax Men's Track and Soccer; so they could add roster numbers for both a new Lacrosse program and add 10 or more Football spots !!!

There's an article in Running Times this month about the Richmond cuts.

So let me get this straight, adding 10 more sub-par, unrecruited players who weren't good enough even to make the first 80 slots of a meaningless football team to the bottom of your roster is the panacea to success? Interesting strategy.

They are still competing so must have been picked back up. Read the thread this cut had NOTHING to do with Title IX.

this is their last season. They are cut at the end of the school year - well at the end of outdoor. This gives kids time to transfer.

I thought maybe they had reversed the decision :( They need to go out and win the conference meet. Maybe that would help the fight.

Are there any updates on this?

The latest update is that the men's program no longer exists.
