That was not a slow pace. Due to the Japanese and Kidane pacesetting, ~all of the top 14 set pr's except for the Ethiopians.

Excited about Dibaba winning again but a lot more excited and shocked about Sally!

I know she's not an American but I feel like she's 'one of us' even tho she's Kenyan. I like Vivian but more excited that these two took 1-2.

Will Kenyans be miffed that there top womens 10k runner, Sally Kipyego, came up through the US college system? Or will they say that is why she did not win gold?

I think the Americans are #4, #5, and #6 all-time, right? Behind Flanagan, Kastor and Goucher.

Hastings stayed with that first surge down to 71-72 territory as long as she could. But geez, I mean at 15:32 she's already on PR pace and then there's a big drop. I thought she gutted it out best she could.

It's disappointing to not have someone place higher, but the three women today just aren't quite in Flanagan's league. They did very well to each PR.

Here in Honolulu we were watching

Men's 400 hurdles and women's 400 meter prelims when the 10,000 meters was happening, so the local NBC affiliate will probably save it for primetime tonight as we are 3 hours behind Cali, 6 hours behind east coast and 11 hours behind London

Beat the Yanks easily though didn't they, a suitable reason to celebrate!

Congrats on an amazing race also by Sally Kipyego. She took a chance on getting out of Kenya to train with Mark Rowland and the Oregon Track Club Elite in Eugene. Who would have thought she would be the Silver medal winner, breaking everyone except the amazing Dibaba. Gutsy move to take the lead with about a mile to go, and holding her spot until Dibaba but on that final sprint with less than a lap to go.

The live NBC T&F broadcast is just getting starting here in Colorado. This isn't live it's BS. I ended up watch it on NBCOlympics.com I opened two streams, one with commentating and commercials and one with no commercials and no commentating. Listened to one and watched the other.

You might be right about the 4/5/6 rankings...although I think Amy Yoder-Begley was somewhere around 31:10 as well.

I also was impressed that Hastings held it together. You could tell she was really trying a lot harder than everyone else to stick with the pace, and once she fell off I thought that she would die hard and the other two Americans would eat her up and spit her out the back. But good for her for not letting that happen and still managing a PR.

I agree, but it has to sting that all three of them lost to the two GB runners who also set PBs, especially Bleasdale who demolished her old PB.

PRs or not, pretty weak showing for the good ol' USA. Hopefully the men won't be equally as embarrassing in the 10K.

Congrats to all the American women who made the team and represented, but we gotta be able to offer better than 11th place and worse.

Bear in mind that our three best 10,000 runners will be competing in the Marathon Sunday morning. You can't really say that about the Brits.

Yes you are right, but Dibaba was phenomenal without a doubt but Kepyego could have put a better fight, she looked too "tight", although her arms motion has always looked like that, her elbows and form were not right. I think she would not have beat Dibaba but wouuld have given her a good fight down the stretch. When I see a race like this, I dont listen to the commentators, the TV is on Mute and watch the race.
