Nick Symmonds asks Paris Hilton to accompany him to the Olympic Trials!

What a total small pee hole town dumb ass hick Nick Symmonds is. He doesn't even know that Paris Hilton is passe and a nobody like he is.

Aren't you basically saying that you think the sport needs gimmicks like this, strategically timed every four years and whomever gets used or hurt in the process is, well, just part of the process? Aren't you, in essence, proving that your sport is irrelevant if it needs to sink to such blatant publicity stunts?

Oh come on! This guy thinks and talks like a politician. If the article smacks of humility to you, it's because Nick Symmonds intends for it to. This whole Paris charade smacks of media savvy and premeditation. Only somebody who's incredibly naive judges somebody on their words; you have to judge them based on their actions. What actions has Symmonds performed over the last few years that would lead you to believe that he is in the slightest bit humble.

Seriously, it's because of guys like you that most of our politicians are such dickheads. The decent, modest, candidates who aren't willing to say "the right thing" don't get elected. Symmonds is a great PR guy, but in no way, shape or form is he modest.

This whole Nick Symmonds thing is probably a result of Nike not wanting any cross company dating between him and Maggie (NB) Vesey. How would that have looked had Nick and Maggie married? Does the wedding happen on the Portland campus or Boston, MA? Too many things that couldn't be worked out.

You're missing the point. Everyone thinks she's a whore. No man, no matter how much he says he doesn't care, will care about that.

How do you think he's going to feel when someone walks up to him and says "I saw your girlfriend getting railed!"? How about the 1,000th times someone laughs at him for dating a moronic felon?

Every guy wants a girl who was a nun before meeting him and a whore while they're together. He's only halfway there.

And save the garbage about double standards. Nick has to live in the world, where the double standard exists. He can think to himself all he wants that the double standard is unfair but again, he's also going to have to deal with a majority of people thinking that he's dating garbage.

Can you site specifically how? I do not think highly of Hilton and I think Symmonds could have picked a better celebrity to market his career. (I feel bad for Vessey, though she may be employing a similar strategy by having promo beauty shots taken at the Playboy Mansion.) And I think Symmonds is savvy, business-wise for doing this. Those are not opposing opinions.
