8:09 is 61's (per 400m) which is also 12:42 pace for 5000m. I don't know his 3000m split but at 61-sec per lap as an average pace, he very likely hit the 3k mark around 7:40 +- 2 seconds. So he's probably ready to go out and run a 7:36/7 3000m. I'd say Rupp definitely has shown he deserves to be in the company of the top competitors in the world. After his 26:48, this is one of the most impressive records I think he's achieved (not to mention his previously-held 13:11i AR).
So far in the last 12 months or so: 60:30, 26:48, 13:11i AR, 13:07, 3:57, 8:09 AR
Too bad Webb isn't having as fortuitous a career at this moment as Rupp. Although, both have yet to grab a medal at a major world championship.
You are not even mentioning that Rupp has demonstrated he can close in 54-55 (last year at Birmingham and USATF). For a 10000M runner that is good even by East African standards. You can see him becoming a very good 10000M runner in every aspect.
