I give up. Go ahead and dress like a douche. I'm sure your mom thinks you look good.

Moms are great. They even love the tight wearing Sally men.
I haven't read many of the posts on this thread, but this is certainly one of the dumbest threads ever.
WHEN WILL YOU IMBECILES GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS THAT ONE DOES NOT NEED TO WEAR TIGHTS OR SHORTS OR SHORTS OVER TIGHTS WHEN RUNNING IN THE COLD?!?!
There are about a million different long running pants, with various amounts of spandex that are not COMPLETELY tights, i.e., they don't 100% outline every inch of your package, if that is what you are concerned about (and it appears to be the concern of many), and yet still fit snugly. They are comfortable, light, and keep you warm, and, do not, I repeat, DO NOT, look exactly like tights, i.e., completely outline your pecker for all the world to see, since that seems to be a big concern to some (and while it is too big of a concern for some in my opinion, I guess there is at least some legitimacy to this worry).
GET...........IT????
For crying out loud people, these pants have been around for years and years and years. And you imbecile continue to argue about it?? W.......T........F.
When it is cold, I don't wear 100% spandex a size too small tights, and I don't wear shorts over tights, and I don't wear shorts and freeze my ass off. No, I wear one of a number of long running pants I own, some with more spandex than others, some just wind-breaker types.
This is called a solution to your stupid argument.
u thinkin bout man pecker.
No shorts over tights. I wear half-tights for most of my runs in the spring/summer/fall. I have really long legs...so the 2 inch split shorts just aren't a good look for me. Yes, I'm vain about such things.
Exactly, wear something else besides tights. But if you simply must wear tights, put some shorts on over them.

Anyway, the I have personally seen the NYU guys running in half tights that are clearly meant to be underwear...seriously disgusting. I guess you have to have some balls to run around a major city in actual underwear.
If you've ever actually spent any time in NYC you'd realize that no one gives a shit. There are so many people out there wearing and doing crazy things that it would probably give someone as uptight and prudish as you a brain aneurysm.
Once you become comfortable in your own skin then this sort of thing probably won't bother you anymore.
I will gladly keep wearing my shorts over tights if it is cold enough.
I got news for you guys. If your fast no one will care how you look.

So you acquiesce. Fine. By the way you first link shows guys in running pants, not shorts....the second shows no one wearing tights....and only the third shows runners wearing tights. Good job!
Guppy wrote:To the other guy, I'm not going to waste my time trying to find a bunch of pictures for you as I don't recall what races specifically or what training videos I've watched in which elites were wearing tights. Look at the pics txrunnergirl provided. Teg and Solinsky are both wearing tights (and no shorts). Here are a few though that took me about five minutes to find because I remembered them.

http://nwrunningandracing.wordpress.com/page/2/I was able to find a pic of a guy wearing shorts over his tights though. I imagine all of you to look similar:

You apparently don't know how to scroll. As if you hadn't made yourself look stupid enough already.

I did. The vast majority of those pics show El G in pants, not tights.
Whether or not elites also wear pants was not the question. The question was whether or not they wear tights. Pictures of them wearing tights were provided. Is this really that hard to understand?

You dissing Teg? A pox on you!
Teg is not wearing shorts over his tights in the pictures provided. You're not looking carefully. You're mistaking the fence behind him for shorts. Look at the second pic.

More likely only homophobic Rush followers.
But 7 pages (so far) about whether to wear shorts over tights says a great deal about the inferiority complex of runners.
Men should not be prancing around outside in tights. At least put some shorts on over top. Only other runners accept tights only as 'normal'
in High School for fashion reasons and not to be made fun of,...it may make sense to wear baggy bball shorts to running practice and also cover running tights with shorts because you may be told you're a homo otherwise
It's the same reason most High School athletes wont wear running shorts with an inseam less than 5 inches on any training runs at practice. newer runners tend to be self-conscious about it, but once you get used to running regularly and you're pretty fit, you dont look gay anymore.

I guess reading comprehension is not a strong point for you, otherwise you would have noticed that I agreed El G was wearing tights in at least one of the pics. That link also seems to suggest that he prefers pants to tights.
Teg is def wearing shorts over tights in that photo.

Tights are not outer wear are they?
Running shorts are outerwear. Jock straps are underwear. Tights serve as either.
Running shorts should only be worn under tights when the tights are to be removed before completion of the workout.
Running shorts can be worn over tights when an extra layer of protection is desirable.
Tights should never be worn alone.
Lets end this thread with some logic and opinion based on observation.
(1) Most nonrunners who see male runners running in tights think they look either effeminate or just goofy. No I haven't taken a survey but I heard comments about the way people dress and some in particular about the way some runners dress and I believe this to be true.
(2) Adult runners in the past 20 years have developed a style as a group and most dress pretty well and in fact have had many running clothes and shoes copied by nonrunners. Personally I think its a positive thing to look good and have others mimic your styles. It reflect positive self image to care about how you look. (Not to be obsessed but to know that when you workout in a public area people think, "hey that athletic looking guy or woman looks good) Vain maybe a little.
(3) If you say you don't care what people think, you are either deluding yourself or you have a social problem.
(4) Society values change and evolve but as for now, male runners running in public (nontrack) areas in tights are viewed negatively.
