In order to be "gifted" a win you have to be able to run away from the entire field minus one of your teammates. I say if you can do that, you and your teammate have earned the right to decide how you want it to go. Had Chavez been a bit closer they would not have been able to do that. Same with Bahus and Serrano in that 5k, it was only an option because they had run away from the rest of the field. If you don't want them to do whatever they want, catch them.
Check our D2 Nats are Slippery Rock Univ in 92...Adams State went 15 or 16pts for the win.

This is not a constitutional issue, not about "rights".
It is about what is right.

Well I clearly am outnumbered here on the Pennel/Haebe issue. I guess I'm not necessarily thinking gifting the win, but finishing side by side. That win was a team effort, especially since Pennel lead for what appeared to be about 90% of the race (granted I could only see the onlien. I would have liked to see a team finish.
I'm aware of Adams perfect score, but I wasn't there to see it. I said "best nationals performance I have ever seen," not "best of all time." Obviously that Adams team is legendary. And I think it wasn't a bunch of foreigners either.
And yeah, I am biased. I would much rather see a team of all college aged, American athletes, than a bunch of overaged foreigners. Especially considering 4 of their top 6 were Colorado kids. And one of their scorers is from Golden and another from my high school.

I like that haebe and pennel worked together for the whole race. It was obvious it would be a 1 - 2 finish for them, they looked so good at 9k, and I think it was cool they decided to duke it out the last 600m like real competitors. Pennel is great, and it's a bummer he has to take home his third runner up title (including track events) but it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I'm sure he is planning on just killing it during track....

You didn't really miss much. Most of it was just staring at a field as spectators ran back and forth. I'm not complaining, it was better than nothing, but honestly, I don't think it was worth watching, unless you were from Western or something.

I will toot my own horn though in pointing out that it was indeed a dogfight for places 3,4 and 5! Only 10 pts between 3rd and 4th, and only 14 more pts to 5th. That's what I like to see, some real drama at nats!
I hope that in the future there will be more drama in terms of who wins the title (not just Adams or Western every year). No offense to WSC or ASC, I have huge respect for them, it would just be great to see other programs around the country rise to that level!
Which leads me to my next point which was that I was super excited to see that Augie won on the women's side! Hell yeah!

I'm not sure which was a bigger surprise...Augstana winning or Western's men's score. Augie ran out of their minds. Great job with the peaking coach.
Adams ran really well besides Sellers. Tough run for him but I expect him to be back at it in track.
So Pennel won conference, Proctor regionals and then Haebe nationals...what a crazy ride.
How about that young talent? Haebe, Chavez and Stevens!! And the lock haven kid seems to be a stud.

On paper it looks like next fall could be a lot of fun.
Western returns 1,13,30 and 76 from nationals. Add in the stud true freshman and you've got a good team.
Adams returns 6,12,22,40,65. And I'm pretty sure they're 8-9-10 were better than anyone's.
Chico returns 3,18,34,35
And Mines returns 14,28,33,43,44,64. Is this the year Mines nabs Western or Adams at a meet?
Looks like these will probably the top four teams going into next fall...without taking in the foreigners that Adams will pick up for next fall.

Aug- 12,13,15,18,46
GVSU- 16,22,23,39

Give me a break. There are twice as many WSC fanboy regulars on Letsrun as there are for any other division II team. Just because someone doesn't believe the outcome will be the same an entire year from now does not mean that you need to flip sh*t about it.
For the record, I have no affiliation with the RMAC. I do think we should let Western State experience the glory right now, because they have certainly earned it. However, it will be all over in twelve months, and then it will have to be earned again. There's no harm in expecting a different outcome in a year's time.

Yes, the 13th place guy is leaving after his sophomore year of eligibility, which is this year. They'll reload though.
