According to the USATF list of certified courses, the 2011 NYC Marathon has an 18 foot drop, and a separation of 20km!! between the start and the finish, i.e. 48% of the distance.
It is very strange that such a course could be approved for any type of record purposes.

The rule is 50% of the race distance, so New York City qualifies...just.
