That was painful to watch. Might explain why there may have been some communication issues with her coach, or as she explains it, "I forgot that it was important to go to team practices" or something along those lines.

Just watched Flotrack interview. Wow. Not her fault but clearly she has some challenges communicating.

Unfortunately, this coach is on a massive power trip, but congrats to her she bested a shy young high school kid and found an excuse to remove her from the team. An excuse she had bee searching for over a year.

I just now watched the interview with Julie Nacouzi and she expressed herself quite well as far as I am concerned.

Also it shows her as 3rd in the standings not 4th.

Congratulations on her great 3rd place finish at Footlocker nationals. I hope she has great success in the future.

J.R. you were probably watching the Kelsey Lakowske interview which was wrongly labeled as Julie on runnerspace. Kelsey got 4th and Julie 3rd. That is the only reason I can think of that it would appear she handled herself quite well.

Next thing you know, they will start disqualifying kids for wearing rubber bands on their wrists or having a purple stripe on their compression shorts the other kids don't have.

Having just watched Nacouzi's call-up for nationals, I truly believe she might be autistic or something. She looked very socially awkward as if she didn't know how to react while they were announcing her accomplishments. Maybe her issue with making practices/running on her own has something to do with autism or a legitimate condition that her coach should really consider. Something like autism would make it very hard to run with a team or understand a basic ultimatum like she was given.

i've had some limited contact with julie for 5 years. i'm not a degreed personality expert but i do know people have varied degrees social-interaction sophistication and interpersonal skills, based on what is considered "normal". we don't all fit the "average" mold and know how to navigate the social arena with alacrity.

i don't know if julie has some clinically-identified neuro-psych idiosyncrasies, but she's clearly more on the shy, introverted side in public; yeah, maybe not average, but consider yourself at that age...nobody's a finished product, so people need to cut her some slack--it's EXTREMELY hard to be put on stage in the spotlight when you don't have the personality or skills that are at home in that environment. if, indeed, she interprets things such as rules and concepts somewhat differently than the norm, then coaches and teachers need to take that into account and find workable solutions.

it very well may be that she does not gravitate to being part of a large group, and finds equilibrium more as an individual or in one-on-on interactions, i don't know for sure.

it does appear she loves running and racing, so she just needs to continue to do that in a manner that is healthy and workable, and be who she is--a wonderful, unique, runner-girl who is admired by many...and, surely, by her family the most.

Julie sounded erratic, tangential. Definitely not comfortable doing interviews. Sounds like "someone" (her mom) usually does most of the talking for her.

Kelsey was a chatterbox on speed. Definitely too comfortable doing interviews.

Aisling Cuffe and Rachel Johnson sounded very "normal" compared to those two.

But listen to all the interviews on Flotrack and compare for yourself.

Just watched three post-race interviews by her (and most of the other athlete interviews) and I thought she was well-spoken and had a lot of charisma. I liked that she paid attention to answering the question that was asked which isn't always the case with athletes.

I hope for her sake she doesn't read this board! She seems to have a good attitude, is a fantastic runner and does not need to change the way she does interviews in my opinion. Some of the comments (not the one I'm quoting) are unbelievably cruel put-downs.

Couple of you posters above are just as fruity as she is. Get a freakin' grip on reality. Nothing about her is normal. She is a nut.

I have seen both interviews, the one with Kelsey (where they called her Julie and said she was 3rd), and the one with Julie on FT.

Both of them are very articulate young women.

I think it would be neat if they went to the same school in college.

I just saw her interview on Flotrack, She is a special ed student, most likely resourse. That explains all the issues with her coach.

Please don't worry about what's said about her on this board. It's full of people who are happy to say things in a message board that they would never say to people in real life.
