I don't give a crap about Neff or UGA, but are you really stupid enough to argue against what a guy said by confirming it? Wow.

The poster was implying that UGA gives lots of money, full scholarships, and aid to student-athletes with mediocre/average credentials and providing Danny Neff as an example. The implication was he is on full-scholarship and hasn't even scored in the SEC. While 10tth or 12th place is not scoring, it is still a solid performance for a FR in his first year of collegiate competition. But of course I'm sure the poster expects a FR to score in a big-time NCAA D1 athletic conference in his first season in order to warrant a scholarship. All I was doing was pointing out this flaw in the poster's comment.

This Neff kid may very well develop into a point-scorer and worth the full scholarship he is on. However, you only get 12 scholarships and right now, he has contributed nothing. A simple way our coach used to look at was to say what if there were 12 of these guys on the Georgia team?

At a school like Wisconsin, a runner who ran a 4:10 or 9:00 has a 25-50% scholarship (if they're lucky). Their traditional and recruiting enables them to get a lot of studs at a much lower cost than most schools. The same goes for Oregon or Stanford. I think people need to realize that a full scholarship at a top tier college means you have to the potential to be a conference champion and top 5 at ncaas.
On Wisconsin's roster, I counted 6 guys who ran sub-9 or sub 4:10 in high school, and the only ones with a full scholarship are probably Ahmed and Hatz, and possibly finnerty. Plus all the in state Wisconsin runners are most likely walk-ons
Drew Shields WAS on full. The other consideration is how Universities "adjust" scholarship based on performance. Maverick Darling is also on full; stolen from MSU!
