I know MJ's 200 and 400 times seemed like this until Bolt came along. Now Bolt's times are in that league as well.

I know special conditions are required for a 1500/mile WR to be set. Anybody know of an upcoming meet that might fulfill WR criteria, w/rabbits, conditions, field, etc?

Not sure if they see them as out of reach, though the fact there don't appear to be any recent attempts on the world records, apart from the unsuccessful ones at 1k and 800m, who tend to suggest that they do.

Regardless, I think that there is no one on the scene at present capable of getting close to the world records from 1000m to 10km. I'd say Rudisha has a shot at the 800 with enough attempts and the perfect pace up to 600m.

I think the current crop of milers haven't the ability to go under 3:29.0 or 3:46.0. I thought Kiprop maybe, but he seems to be stagnating a bit since the Olympics. This might change.

Dean- do you think KB can't come close to his 5000 or 10000m records? Just wondering as it seems quite a strong statement.

Hardly. Although I'm interested to see him take aim at the HM world record (maybe) and the marathon WR (mayyybe), I think he's done as far as PRs on the track go...

My initial reaction is no. He hasn't come close in a couple of seasons and he's been injured this year. He's not getting any younger, but then he is Bekele, so you should never right him off.

I can't see anyone else this season getting within 10sec of the 5 WR or 20 secs of the 10k.
