I'm pretty sure Coach Taylor did appeal the decision. At the same time he was very upset with Jimmy's celebration. As someonesaid, if you were there you probably are way more shocked than if you weren't because it was such a surprise and you heard the crowd reaction, etc.

I also heard from an observer in the stands that Samara was gesturing to the officials that Miller threw down Amirault. He was talking to them for quite a while and that was the gesture he was making. Also he was gesturing about Wyner's celebration.

Wyner's celebration is not in doubt. But rewatch the video. I don't think Andy Miller even touches Amirault with his hand. No way does he gets DQd.

Bfullem that DQ story is ridiculous.

Another Bucknell story. My junior year Yale, Cornell, Bucknell tri meet. The meet is super tight. Comes down to the 4*800 which is the last event I believe. The Bucknell guy walks down the Yale anchor and on the homestretch start taunting him. Way, way worse than what Wyner did. He dangles the baton back in the guys face and starts prancing to the finish totally mocking the guy. He even wants to taunt him so much, he slows down in the process and lets the Cornell guy pass him for 1st (he thought Bucknell only had to beat Yale but actually they needed to win the race to get the points). As a result Yale and Bucknell ended up tied.

But there was no DQ at all. However within about 10 seconds a fight broke out underneath the stands as some throwers went after the guy. That or public pressure seems to be a better punishment. To pretend Bucknell didn't beat Yale is a joke and to pretend Jimmy didn't win the race is a joke.

I wish Jimmy was able to get his due for finally winning the 1500 at Heps and doing it such a dominating fashion he knew know one was going to beat him with 50 yards left. He has never won an outdoor title and this meant a lot to him but he celebration turned the attention elsewhere.

This kind of stuff doesn't happen at the Big East, Big12, SEC, etc. It's like all these rich white kids think they're in a frat.

I competed in one of the above conferences and don't remember an entire team ever booing an opposing runner.

Samara was standing next to the PV and you couldn't see what happened with Amirault from there, so I think your informant was mistaken.

I'll certainly avoid comment on this topic except to clear up an inaccurate statement. Coach Taylor most emphatically did appeal the decision.

He also most emphatically did chew wyner out at the time as one can't afford to put the team title in jeopardy.

Tigerfan, the fact is samara didn't see the Miller thing but he most emphatically did go crazy and try to get miller DQd. After the race, i stared at him to see how he'd react. He went to the officials and went crazy.

It was easy to see from the stands. He acted out wyner putting his hands out and mimicked miller throwing amirault's shoulder to the ground.

The heat of battle causes people to do weird things. Miller himself was convinced that Amirault purposely jumped in front of him to try to take him out which I think is absurd.

Both samara and miller's thoughts afer the race were incorrect. The difference is miller doesn't have the power to influence the officials. samara and the mob apparently do.

It's pretty simple really. A race you train your whole life for doesn't go your way and you get upset and let your emotions cloud your judgement. Miller didn't foul amirault. Amirault tecnically did foul Miller but it wasn't on purpose.

As for samara, the mile results effectively ended his teams chances for a title and he knew it. He got desperate and got wyner DQd.

It wasn't just the dartmouth fans booing. It was princeton and yale as well. A princeton runner called wyner a scumbag. Not sure why that didn't warrant a DQ.

Fans of Wyner or sympathizers have it all wrong. They should be thanking the officials, not castigating them, because in the absence of official justice (him being dq'd), there would have been vigilante justice. In other words, I would have gotten some throwers, gone down there, and punched him square in the face. Anyone who disrespects his opponents like that deserves nothing less than a beat down. The Ivy League meet is about camaraderie and respectful competition; Wyner and his ilk (Boylan-Pett, e.g., who also celebrated before he crossed the line) make me ill. So, thank you to the officials.

Wow, I was in a really boring conference. I hope Wyner doesn't run xc because who knows what the competition might do to him when the course is out of sight of the officials.

If the celebration was so clearly over the line, why did the officials need a protest from Samara to DQ him?

Why did the officials at the finish line and home stretch white flag him at the time, especially considering it looked much worse in person with the booing than on replay?

Perhaps someone should send the officials the link to replay it themselves.

And I'll also add that the Dartmouth fans were within their purview to boo Wyner. Was it just as classless as the celebration was? Yeah. Can you knock people for being into their conference meet though? I thought the Dartmouth enthusiasm during the meet only added to the atmosphere (including the makeshift drumming by Mustafa Abdur-Rahim)

If anyone in the race was offended, they shouldn't have given him enough room to celebrate 50m from the line. Period.

Nobody listened to you the first however many times because you\'re an idiot. Wyner was clearly the instigator in this situation. He showboated the last 80 meters, beginning when he had what, maybe half a meter lead? Sure from the birds-eye view you can tell he\'s going to win but from trackside it looked way worse. Obviously people were going to boo. Should they have booed? No.They probably deserved a warning. But then Jimmy took it to an entirely different level by taunting the fans and (since finishing runners were directly between him and the Dartmouth fans) indirectly taunting the athletes he just beat as well.

Dartmouth fans booing and Jimmy physically taunting are on two entirely different levels of poor sportsmanship.
