Interesting. Exactly what would lead you to believe that?
1. Their "valiant" effort during the playoffs, losing to Kobe & friends 4-1?
2. The fact that they are currently 6½ games behind the Lakers in the conference standings?
3. Their "decisive" one-point victory over L.A. in San Antonio earlier this season?
4. Their "narrow" 14-point loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles earlier this season?
First, i didn't post the above about having LA's number. I think the other posts by "ripvanracer" are mine.
As for your arguments, they are valid but the Spurs lost last year with an injured Manu. He is really their closer. As for the conference standings, the spurs are that far behind because they lost alot of games early when both Parker and Manu were injured. Since they have been back they are playing over .800 ball which is comparable to the Celtics, Cavs, and Lakers. Before they sat there big 3 they were 18-4 the last 22 games(.818). The Spurs have traditionally had a better playoff team that is able to grind a game down and play better half court basketball. Kobe really struggles against defensive minded teams and starts taking alot of bad shots when the pressure is on. I don't believe Bynum will be back and even if he is I don't think he can get back in good enough shape to really make a differnce. Look at the history of the Spurs and see how they play and you should agree that they are a team you can't disregard. They haven't won 4 of the last 10 titles by accident.
That being said I HATE to watch the kind of basketball they play. They are getting older and I think this is there last chance before some other teams pass them by.
