I don't think the trackshark lists include times run at ncaas

It is really funny. His senior year when he ran approx a 4:10 and 8:55 (winning by over a minute) double in a pre-season meet people said the same thing. 4 months later he had finished the season a tad faster.
Did he race a full indoor season before his senior year?

Manzano has arguably more upside that Fernandez. Leo ran like 20 miles a week (if that) in high school. Came to college, told Vig that he was training really hard with his 20 minutes of running a day. Vig laughed at it but also realized what a huge talent he is. They've been gradually increasing his training ever since. I bet he still hasn't run much over 60 miles a week, correct me if I'm wrong.
I wouldn't argue Manzano had -that- much more upside. German didn't exactly have a huge training background coming into school. The real difference was that Manzano had, essentialy, no training, while German had a short period of very good training.
If Manzano had the same coach as German in HS, he would undoubtedly have been faster in HS, but it has been long enough now that that initial handicap should have started to fade off. I don't think we have seen the best of Leo yet, but I don't think he has the same upside either.

A split is different than a conversion. 3:37 is equivalent to about a 3:55.
Gregson also ran in an open outdoor meet. Fernandez ran in a conference collegiate meet.

yea that is gregson. what i want to know is who the f*** this kid thinks he is. he is in killer shape for the australian outdoor season, runs 3:37 against some pros who are looking towards worlds, isn't the best junior in the non-african world right now, not by a lot.

Gregson was in decent shape in October- November, then got a stress fracture and couldn't run through December and early January.
In February he has run 3.37.2.
German had a great xc season, muddled by a slight strain, which he is over now.
Given Gregsons 6 week build-up I think it is fair to assume German will beat him at World XC, although Gregson insists the 3.37 came off XC training.
The real test will be how they go at Berlin, at the world champs. Fernandez will have his chance to run 3.37 outdoors, like the regular college guys do come May and June.
Who are all you guys to say something about Ryan when you dont even no him. Saying he thinks hes a gangster well when you break a national record you can say what you want but when your just some random american you cant say shit. And knowone cares about the mile except maybe americans so dont judge how fast eachother is because thats just stupid. And i told Ryan about this thread today and hes never gonna go to one of those colleges and get 'messed up' by some bloke at Stanford because he already goes to UWS in Australia. You guys are just looking for an arguement that is pointless and irrelevant so get a life outside of going onto running websites and talking shit, your a tool. And they are both coming into world xc under different circumstances so you cannot compare the 2. But it will be a great race never the less. And glaoting about him winning by 10 seconds yeah its great he won by that much but who are the other guys? Any good?

Yes, actually. Not world class, but certainly good. Two sub-4 milers were 4th and 5th in this race, 11+ seconds back. This was also on a 200m indoor track which, if you have ever run on one, you know makes it harder to run the faster races as the turns are tighter and the straights are shorter.
The impressve part is not that he won by 10 seconds, it is how he gained that margin. He ran 3:55 by himself over the last half. Ryan ran 3:37 chasing people the whole race, never had to set his own pace, all he had to do was follow.
Now it is possible that German Fernandez is just a great time trialer, as he hasn't yet been on the track with people who are significantly better than him. We probably won't know until he races Rupp.

But what is the conversion to just a regular mile? And are you sure you didn't use the conversion for Australian miles? And double check that the partial mile conversion hasn't changed recently.

And what do you mean you can't compare the 2? Of course you can. Just compare who beats the other and what times they run.
3:42.22 ~ 4:00.00 using 1.08 factor, so 3:37.24 ~ 3:54.62. This is slightly less than a 3:55.02. However, the 3:37 was run with runners pulling him a long and without winning the race on an outdoor track. GF's race was run indoors all alone in a meet where he was doubling and likely not going all out. Gregson's race was good; GF's was better and it is only now that I think that GF has caught (and more?) Ryan.
