You don't have to be a "natural-born american". It's an award based on whether you are a United States citizen or not. It doesn't matter where you are born. It makes sense because lots of the people going to college in the US are not US citizens and the award IS called "All-AMERICAN".

Getting a stress fracture is not unlucky. Maybe the kid trained too hard.

Heat exhaustion is not luck either. Maybe the kid went out too hard for the conditions or for his fitness level.

Stop trying to prove to everyone how good you could have been. You are only as good as you were on that day, and that was 5th. There's no consolation prize for your team not running as well as they could have.

Top four, oh man you crack me up!

first off... top 15 in the race are all-american, regardless of citizenship. the top 30 u.s. citizens are also given all-american status.

second, here's how i see the top 10 teams and individuals:

1. GVSU- i think it's their year. i think peck is as fit as he has ever been, a legit top 5 guy, and if their pack runs like they're capable of you're looking at 5 guys in the top 20-25.

2. Western- loads of talent, but without hogarth at full strength i think they fall a little short. should be tight though. next year however... look out

3. ACU- this is assuming nico runs well, they don't look nearly as impressive as they did last year.

4. Adams- young, slightly inexperienced team, although loaded with talent, i think next year will be more their year as well.

5. Chico- look at that pack... however i dont think tollefson will be any higher than 20th, which puts them in the 150 pnt range which historically... has been 5th

6. Minn. Mankato- have some solid front runners with a decent supporting cast, lets see if they can perform this year, they have a history of bonking at the big show

7. Mines- North Central Region is tough... if they run like they have been, this is where i put em. they have the potential to be much higher, and much lower as well.

8. Edinboro- solid pack as well, however i think they lack the front runners to do a lot of damage, could be a few spots higher however if everyone races well

9. Stonehill- have some decent front runners, and good 3-5, not really sure of the potential of the front runners though (top 10 vs to 25) could be higher

10. Slippery Rock- Weiss should be top 5 and reagan top 20, but they slip quite a bit after that.

Individuals:

6. Gasore

Wait... So GVSU is good enough to win it all, but then there isn't one other team in the GL Region that can place in the top 10? Granted I wouldn't really consider UNK top 10 (maybe even top 20?) material, but between Wayne and USI, it seems like one of those two would be in there if GVSU can go balls deep and pull out the win. I think GVSU is a more likey third place team and second if they have their ideal day.

Adams men won 7 straight NAIA titles in the 80s. Adams women won 9 straight NAIA/D2 titles in the 90s.

I have to agree...WSC, ASC and ACU are a different level of teams---each of these teams have three and maybe even four guys who could run in front of GVSU's #1 man---look at the regional times and other performances from the year...

As for the winner...

WSC seems to need Hogarth to race and race well, they cannot depend on Rasmussen, who was over a minute behind the number 4 guy at the regional.Donnan looked supremely confident at the region (although he was outkicked for second)and seemed to be the only guy who wanted to try and go after Ngirakamaro, Clark is experienced and runs well in big races.

ASC will send a pretty inexperienced team to nationals, but it is very talented (as mentioned before). Mwei seems confident, Braun was undefeated until Regionals, Medigovich has been more consistent than the past, McNiff is a World Junior Cross guy---but must be very worn out by now, he has been racing hard for over a year now...I guess Wagnew is out so again #5 becomes an issue---but,they have three guys within a few seconds and I doubt all three will run poorly.

ACU will race Nicodemus and he will be in the top 3. Not sure he will win, a month spent rehabing and running easy has surely taken a toll on his fitness, but he IS Nicodemus and knows how to race and win...Gasore is solid--he was top 15 last year and is racing better this year, their third man is also right there---look for three in before Peck crosses the line...#4 and #5 will be within 30-40 seconds of the third guy and that is close enough to take away the advantage of the GVSU pack.

So, as I have said before---GVSU cannot win and the top three will be WSC, ASC and ACU...not neccesarily in that order.

I think gvsu winning is a little unbelievable but I don't see any reason why they can't crack the top 3. I think everyone canagree this will be the best team gvsu has ever put on that line. ACu is amazing for obvious reasons and western and Adams look great. I can't wait to see this race

Honestly, I think Peck can run with anyone in the race (given that Nico and Hogarth have been hurt). Peck has always been solid top 20 in XC, but I think this is his year to bust up the top 5 & GVSU's year to bust up the top 3.

There is NO way that Western, Adams and ACU will each put at least 3 in front of Peck. I'll be sure to come back to get the last laugh when Grand Valley State breaks up your precious trio (WSC, ASC, and ACU).

To say that WSC, ASC, and ACU have 3 to 4 guys that can run with Peck is THE most ignorant post yet on this whole thread.

The second is, "look at the region times and performances this year."

1. Peck has not lost a race this year. He won at MSU beating their #1 runner by 34 seconds. GVSU beat them team wise as well and MSU went on to get 6th at the GL Region.

2. Peck won by 20 seconds at Notre Dame beating Craig Leon from Ohio by 30 seconds. Leon made the individual bid for D1 nationals. GVSU also beat Calvin ranked #1 DIII.

3. GLIAC's: Peck won by 20 seconds and GVSU won w/ 19pts.

4. Regionals: Peck won his 4th STRAIGHT REGIONAL championship beating beat Paul Jellema (14:05/29:15), by 30 seconds. GVSU won w/ 20 pts.

I have a question: How many Western, Adams, and ACU guys were infront of him at Nationals in the 5k and are running cross this season? I keep looking, but I find 0.

The regional course at SIUE is NOT any easy course, not to mention from 6 miles to 10k it was 20-25 seconds long. So you cannot compare times from the track the west and mountain ran on. You all make some of the most ridiculous points that I have ever read.

Seriously though, I do agree with you on everything you mentioned. Peck should be up at the front contending for a top 5 spot, and if he falls back, should not be worse than 10th.

However, though I do not think that ASC, ACU and WSC, it would be a minor upset if GVSU got into the top 3. It is not out of the realm of possibility, but if those other three teams run to their potential, then GVSU gets fourth.

I agree, Grand Valley top 3, but who wouldnt put Wayne and SIU in the top 10? If GVSU is top 3, Wayne and SIU can pull off top 10, they are from a good and deep region. Not including NKU.

How about this...Regis University ran the Notre dame course and their #1 guy ran 27:30...Peck won Notre Dame in 24:25...Regis guy was not within 4 minutes (34:51)of the front ASC and WSC guys at Regionals---therefore I say Peck would not have broken 31 at the NC Region, placing him a solid 10th in that region.

Peck "could" crack the top 10 in the same way that Nicodemus "could" crack the top 3... it's not could, it's WILL.

the chico cheering team is starting their road trip tonight to go to nationals!

what are other teams plans for travel? I know Chico has an awesome fan base.
