She's just looking for a paid weekend to celebrate four years of ball and chain living in her favorite wine country.

But having faced the fierce opprobrium from the Let's Run community she has removed all evidence of what she was looking for.

I sense she feels the shame being heaped upon her fair head.

You still don't get it. The issue isn't whether the race director made an intelligent decision not to comp Deena. The issue is whether Deena acted appropriately under the circumstances.

This is nuts. I had never seen her website before today when I tried, unsucessfully, to find the "comment". But, it strikes me that she posts some refreshing comments about her life and her running. Why look at it as if she weighed every word in worry that the pc babies will spin it according to some whim.

She is a great kid and I hope that she doesn't change ANYTHING.

Let's see. Deena asks for a comped entry to a road race. She is denied. She posts something about it on her Web site.

Sounds like much ado about nothing. Of course, the letsrun message board is usually much ado about nothing. So that's no surprise.

I fully expect the customary replies. Well, if it's much ado about nothing, why are you reading this thread or the message board, you toolbag? And so forth.

The Woods, Manning, Jordan analogy is stupid. There isn't a mass equivalent in any of their sports like road racing, where you or I or the guy in accounting who runs three miles every other day at lunch can line up against an Olympian. And they don't pick up the phone to inquire about tournaments. They call their lackeys and make them do it.

DK deserves a free entry, with running 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days and all that.

Agreed.

Perhaps the US Open is a good analogy. Woods doesn't have to pay to compete (though he does pay for his accomodations). People who make it through the qualifying rounds do have to pay.

This is the problem with professional distance running. You don't see Kobe entering a 3 on 3 basketball league or Woods playing at the State Pro-Am or Manning playing in the semi-pro leagues. For running to become a professional sport its athletes need to be seperated from the running masses. There needs to be a Professionals-Only Circuit of distance running, similar to the European track meets. I've floated this idea before, search for it. As long as runners like DK have to enter the "people's" races the sport will forever be unprofessional.

Hey Sweety,if they say "Cuber", it's Boston.

Depending on what I want to accomplish, I might ask them not even to play even if they want to pay their way, although I would pay their way with all the bene's if they would do demos, clinics, signings the day of or before. Why, because Joe Average might like to win a tourney. With MJ, Tiger, Peyton etc. that means the good local guys might not even show up and wait till next week I know I would not play in a 3-3 tourney with MJ, I would rather just watch...

running is different, but the race made a strategic decision about the type of race they want to hold and that doesn't include attracting elite athletes, and they are sticking to it. If you don't like it, don't run it.

keep in mind, we don't know the full response to Deena---I don't think the issue was the 25 bucks. the RD may have responded that he simply was not interested in Deena regardless--25 buck entry and/or otherwise. She felt she was not welcome so she "crossed it off her list" Not that big of a deal--if she didn't feel as if she was welcome then she was not going to race there, plain and simple. Funny how things take a life on their own on a message board--and knowing Deena, she is one of the most genuine, gracious people you will find, so to make judgements about her and her motives is just ridiculous.

There are "professional" races all over the country and world.

Just because the town B-League softball tournament wouldn't wave an entry fee doesn't mean that runners of Denna's ilk have no marketplace to sell their wares.

Shorter was back in town shortly after winning the gold in Munich and his first race was against Boulder High School at half time of a football game.

The open race in Paso Robles isn't even the featured event - it's just the local 'fun run.' The comp entries and appearance fees go to the Masters, because it's the Masters National Championships - that could be why he wouldn't comp the entry. Not sure why she would even want to run in this race - she could probably win it overall.

Seems like she was fishing for a free weekend in wine country. Even folks making six figures a year like freebies. Poor form complaining about it on her web site.
