Here is a guy who gets released from months of immobilization (cast), and places extreme pressure on his untrained body. Wejo is asking for trouble, and you, as a podiatrist (I think, not sure) should know it. JK should be offended that his athlete treats his own limitations with so little reverence, and history should have been a lesson for him. Such a stunt would get you kicked off many D1 rograms. I was a long distance cyclist - 100 mi, 100k, etc. Broke both heels in a fall from a ladder working on a house, and one so badly it required surgical reconstruction, and a boot for twelve weeks.

It was as if my lower leg was just a stick to keep me upright. It had no muscle, no strength. The doctor at first warned me about a shortened leg, weakness, but I thought I knew better. A little weight training, and that would fix that.

Ha! Five years later, I am still wishing I had stayed off that ladder! I can run one 400. Period. I can walk 10K in two hours, but run? Nope. But the pain my doctor described as "chronic" in my ankle was more the loss of strength in my tendons. My daughter shamed me into walking the track while she ran, and ever so slowly, I discovered the pain was the result of my weakened muscles, and the tendons that stabilized my ankle.

My first all out on the track resulted in 50 meters, and a week of ibuprofen. It only gradually improved.

Don't give up, but reshape the goal. I was in a wheelchair for six weeks of the twelve, and let me tell you, I will swap the ability to run a 400 at a jog in a moment for that wheelchair. It gives me chills now to even think of what nerve damage might have wrought.

Just reminds me of what a strange lot we are as runners. However, running is something I could never give up.

Hmmmm. Alan Webb = 3:46.91 Wejo = 60.whatever

...so that's 56.5 seconds per lap for Mr. Webb so wejo would've only lost by merely 16 seconds overall extrapolating his 1/4 to 1 full mile.
