I heard Mitch VanBruggen was out with a stress fracture, so he quit XC and joined the military so he could lose his whole leg in combat over in Iraq and then win some wheelchair races next year. Can anyone else confirm that?

Vanbruggen was diagnosed with anemia...found out a few days back. Won't be racing this weekend and may not be back for awhile.
Central Region Rankings are up:

uhhhh I heard he got syphillis and scurvy, and at the same time
that just means he needs a shot of penecillin benzathine and some fruit in his diet.

Inside scoop is that Martinez is out for the season with a hip ailment. Word.
Where the heck did you hear that??
Who knows what can be trusted and what can't be trusted on this board. That's why I just read it for entertainment and don't take anything at face value.
So, I just talked to David Borner and he said he is almost 95% positive he will be running for St. Mary's this year.
How will that shake things up?
Probably false, as Borner wasn't in the St. Mary's roster at the invite they hosted Sep 1.

Obviously it's really early in the season, but I think it's encouraging that Mac beat Luther, who was just ranked #4 in the pre-season Central Region poll linked above.
3 Matt Wegmann, Mac
4 Tim Burns, Mac
5 Kyle Braam, Mac
6 David McKay, Luther (11th '06 central region)
7 Matthew Busche, Luther (7th '06 region)
8 Aaron Zutz, Luther (26th '06 region)
first off haugen and steve are good coaches (and people). think before you speak about luther; they are exceptionally trained to peak when it counts. does anyone remember ncaa's at the "mud pit" last year...? think back to what luther did and consider how their training is likely crafted.
luther was obviously doin a tempo run
Looks to me he was simply saying that Luther is a good team, and though it's early season, the results of the St. Mary's Invite indicate a promising start for Macalester.
Given that Haugen is indeed a good coach, I might not give them a national ranking just yet, but they at least deserve a Central ranking.
You got to be kidding me. It is so obvious Luther did it as a tempo run. Look how groups of three guys ran within a second of each other. They probably did the meet because the NCAA is enforcing the rule of having a meet within so many days of practice. I don't know the exact rule but it's there. Besides , those times aren't all that impressive so I don't know why people are freaking out. Yeah i know "It's early in the season and they don't want to peak early." Yeah, so then why are people so excited about these results. I believe Luther is underrated in the polls, based an their returning runners. The polls also said that La Crosse was going to get second in the nation.
Your's is the closest to a freak show. Buddy.

Borner is out of eligibility. He has been saying he's a sophomore for the last 3 years.
This board is full of crap! Martinez out for the season, VanBruggen anemia and leg thing?, and Borner running for St. Mary's!! pft
you are full of shit. borner is not running at st mary's. well, actually no one runs there (maybe jogs); he is definately not competing (wait...), he is not attending st mary's and is not and will not participate as a member of their intercollgeiate mens cross country team.
And wherever is is that you come from, nobody spells.
This years MIAC season is going to be one of the strongest in many years. You will have teams like SJU, Hamline, Carleton, Mac all trying to run into the NCAA meet. Although they all will not make it, but it will be fun to see who gets to the NCAA meet at the end of the year. With the NCAA meet being at St. Olaf this year, I am sure that the MIAC will make a good showing at the NCAA meet. The MIAC should also have a good showing of individual the NCAA meet.
The MIAC has a great tradition in cross country running and this season is no different. It is exciting to see the different teams winning the MIAC team title other than St. Thomas. In recent years St. Olaf, SJU, Hamline, and Carleton have won as well as advancing to the NCAA Championships.
Be proud of the MIAC because the conference has had many outstanding runners that have gone on to be awarded All American awards.
