I remember that night well. Spring of 1996, I was fifteen with no drivers license. After your dad kicked me out of your house when we got home at 2:00AM, my mom had to come pick me up! That was definetely not a fun 20 minute ride back to Greenbriar.
Fasil and I got home late because we were with some high school girls volleyball team from the Region in town to watch the vb state finals. Every time I drive by that hotel on I-65 right by University of Indianapolis, I think of Fasil and I trying to pimp...and then your dad yelling at me for it.
I'm disappointed in my protege's prediction. No respect for his grandmentor. Good luck Fasil.
I'll update the Guesslist sometime tomorrow...
If any of you are close to the Charlotte area, I'm putting on a 5K road race on June 2nd, 2007. Its called the Grand Garibaldi Run (www.grandgaribaldirun.com). In 6 months, we have already raised over 36 grand through sponsors to allow access to specialty services for uninsured patients in Gaston County, NC.
There is a $500 prize for 1st place male and 1st place female. Fasil might run, but he won't be eligible for prize money. Sign up online. I'm capping entries at 350-400.

Indeed he did. Last I heard, he was fighting fires in California.
Hell of a guy, that one.

I was a Senior when Biz was a freshman. I remember the schools around Indianapolis always had huge fast teams. Ben Davis, Carmel, etc...and a huge fanbase. The noise at State Cross was deafening. We had 3 regulars on the Clarksville team that year, a small school in the southern part of the state. I don't think we ever had more than 7 runners on a team in the 4 years I was there.
Anyway, I remember in the 3200m that year Biz and some big tall guy running in basketball shorts were duking it out. I led for about 200m during the 6th lap then proceeded to eat dust, Biz and the tall guy took off around me. With 800m to go we all were still pretty tight, no more than 1-2 seconds accross the group. I fell off, finished in 7th, 10 second back. I remember working it out way back then and I think they ran the last 800m in 2:10, I did it 2:20. I think the guy with basketball shorts was able to nip Biz in the end. It's great to see old school Indiana dudes still running well. Most of us are just getting and slow...:)

Article about Fasil in Indianapolis Star tomorrow.
under Olympic Sports
And I got to clarify something...I'm biz...Fasil is more like biz-lite...my post-collegiate nonrunning wieght validates that....I'll be in London in about 18 hours...

”9 minute PR…….”,….. I would think that this might be optimistic…in fact, Our mom might find this time optimistic… I hope you are right, but In fact I think that many of the guesses are skewed to the optimistic end…..I guess that it might be reasonable to skew to the faster times as you are responding to the runner’s brother, but, give your best guess…not best possible scenario guess….

I now suspect a likely clustering of guesses around the guy from MIT as everyone will assume that he got his guess by using a statistical algorithm that plugs in hieght, weight, vital statistics, PRs, prerace diet, climate, # of times getting laid in the past year (Fasil might hurt in this department) and figured a time based on this statistical algorithm………Thanks for the support!

If I win, send the $50 to the track coach at Ben Davis so a needy HS kid can get a pair of shoes. I ran with your old HS coach when I was at IU, and I know someone at your alma mater could use the help - as could any HS. Tall ya what, if I win, I'll match the donation.---great idea

Thanks for support. Shots out to everyone in our hometown of Indianapolis, especially Ben Davis High School! I still own the Columbus East high school course record (the only one that Fasil did not break)…granted it was a dual meet in the middle of nowhere…but I still got it and noone can take that away from me…I’m pathetic
