Nikki Hiltz: "All Olympic athletes competing in women’s sports are now required to undergo genetic sex testing," Hiltz wrote in a post on Instagram Stories. "Attacks on trans people have consistently led to more policing and regulation of ALL women’s bodies. Everyone is hurt by transphobia.
"Y’all already know where I stand on this but this policy is so f---ing stupid and is not solving a problem that exists. I don’t know who needs to hear this but ZERO trans women competed in the Paris Olympics. Only ONE trans woman weightlifter competed in Tokyo 2021 and she did not win a medal. Can we please stop obsessing over trans people? And idk maybe focus our time, energy, and resources into real problems women’s sports face?"
Sigh...once again Hiltz pretends not to understand something to score political points. This isn't about 'trans people', it's about males in female sport. This policy is about protecting the female category by ensuring that no males can compete within female sport. This of course applies to the Laurel Hubbards and Lia Thomas' of the world but, more pertinently, it applies to those males with a disorder of sexual development that gives them internal testes and a micropenis. Unfortunately for Hiltz, the latter group show up alarmingly often on podiums (think the entire 2016 Rio 800m podium and Imane Khelif 2024) and would continue to do so were it not for this policy.
For all of Hiltz's posturing, she nevertheless knows which side her bread is buttered on. If she were a true believer in her cause, she would compete in the open category with the males as it is open to biological women. If she feels she is non-binary, then she'd surely feel more at home in the 'open' category- it would certainly be a powerful message to her community. However, when it comes to her own career, she somehow feels that she doesn't want to compete against males, which is fortuitous as she would be struggling against high schoolers and her career wouldn't exist. In spite of this, she's more than happy to see other biological women get punched in the face/dominated by males within the protected female category. Funny how that works isn't it?
