I've got Georgia Griffith and Cal Davies. Very interested to see how Claudia goes over 3k.
Apparently Stewy's out (Never knew he was even on the startlight) so i'm going Cal Davies in the men and Tanaka in the womens. Bit annoying that they don't do the livestreams for these track meets on Youtube anymore. 7plus never works for me when i'm not in aus (even with VPN)
Happy for Sinead. I am not here biggest fan (I didn't like the antics associated with her, Gregson and Stenson getting together on a podcast and calling Weightman a liar around selection policy for Paris - it was below the three of them), but she's done incredibly well to come back and get to the start line in Tokyo today. You can tell she's struggled a lot emotionally the past two years. Her body has been through a lot, and her mind has too. She never gave up and has done so well to get back to a start line. I wouldn't be surprised to see her finish her career in the next eight months, but a 2.29 in Tokyo and a career end at Melbourne or Dublin is a far better place to leave things than Paris and 2023/2024 which were seasons she struggled.
Great run from Sinead. For perspective shed smoke every Australian male (and most other nations) her age (49) with that 2.29 Mara. In fact she ain’t far off the Aussie Male 49 age group record (2.26 I think?). Crazy when u think about it.

2.29 at 49 is an incredible run. But she went out at ~2.24 pace, so I can only assume she is disappointed and wanted more? And that her training suggested she was in shape for 2.24? I wouldn't be surprised if she tries one more on a flat course. However gauging marathon shape using 'whatever you can hit in the marathon training sessions' IMHO is ripe for encouraging MTC athletes to run their race in training.
2:29:56 for Sinead in Tokyo. What are we thinking? Just getting one on the board after a long time off or is age finally catching up with her?
Ed Goddard a DNS? Did he announce he wasn't starting anywhere? Alex Harvey DNF. Says foot pain and legs heavy from the start on Strava.
Vanessa Wilson 2:39 - time sounds like a rough day. Not sure of splits of form going in.
Anyone else I'm missing?
Goddard's gotta be the most frustrating person to try and follow in Aus running scene. Posts every single run on strava, always posting sponsored stuff on insta, but never actually tells anyone any updates on anything. How hard would a quick Strava caption of "hey guys, just letting you know i've pulled out of Tokyo Marathon and i've decided to turn my focus to XYZ Marathon due to some recent niggles)"?? Also, the guy's form has plateaued in recent years. He needs a new coach or an actual training group.
also Asics dropped him (fairs) and now saucony is trotting him out for some "beat ed goddard challenge" in which he probably will get beaten by someone with a full time job. for example, James Nipperess if he's keen (who works at the RBA)
