I think this whole thing looks great. Yes, the overhead drone needs some work and hopefully they fix that going forward. But some of you complaining are such a pain. This is awesome. I wish I could have gone.
Agreed - too much whining about coverage. It's cross country through mud, trees, obstacles. Much harder to film than running in a circle. How many camera guys do you think there are in the world who have filmed one of these? Not many.
I get that conditions are difficult—but if you can’t actually see the runners, what’s the point of televising the event at all? The announcer is clearly doing her best, and she’s excellent at Diamond League meets, where you can actually see the athletes. Here, though, the broadcast makes it almost impossible to follow what’s happening.
I woke up early for this. After missing the mixed relay, I read the comments and thought people must be exaggerating—but it’s actually worse. I want to watch my country’s athletes compete, and I simply can’t. For an international event of this caliber, planning has to account for whether the competition can be meaningfully shown on television. Right now, it isn’t—and that’s incredibly disappointing.

Absolutely disagree. This is inexcusably bad video coverage. They prepared for a whole year to give the world 80% drone shots?
This is the height of.embarassment for USATF.
This is equivalent to the dogsh1t trend in marathon coverage.
I'd like to know as well. Unfortunately, when you only get close enough to see the athletes faces for about 2 seconds every 5 minutes, it makes a little difficult...
I agree with the poster who said that this is borderline unwatchable. So incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I was very excited for this event, but it is already a total, overwhelming disappointment in terms of it being a watchable event.
Because of all the retarded obstacles there cannot be a lead car with a camera crew. They sacrificed good footage for gimmicks.
Florida!
Sorry mate, not true. A skid steer could have easily created a smooth go around for cart. They just chose not to.
Absolutely. All they'd have to do is create an alternate path for the brief areas where there's an obstacle that the vehicle can't navigate. Surely if you have the capability to host an event like this, you have the ability to hire a local to do a little bit of temporary Landscaping...
Whoever is doing the commentary was great, knew every runner in detail. Probably being paid in Shrute bucks unfortunately.
That’s Hannah England, doing an excellent job, as usual. Wish she had Tim Hutchins to join her, though. I’ve done solo commentary, and it’s hard to fill the space intelligently.
What would be your suggestion? They can't have a golf cart in front with the obstacles. They made a decision to do drone footage with a camera view at each obstacle and the finish/start line. You get to see an close video several times during each lap...and then the drone throughout. My god, runners are so annoying.
You can have field level athlet facing Gator shots with obstacles -- just watch cyclocross footage from Europe. You just need several camera gator's set up, for each long stretch section, that go back and forth between the obstacles (they quickly drive back each loop as athletes are out of camera). Easy fix. But, agree with your premise - horrible field level footage, where there could be long stretches of outstanding field-level athlete facing footage. A complete shame.

I'm sick of this crap
Low drone chase shots are back! Zooming over the water pit. Can we please just stick with this? Great course, great audience, great comms, just add the cameras for us watching from home

Did this course exist during her days at FSU? I think she ran there around 2007-2008 range.
