He said in a Cronos sponsored interview that he may go for London 2029 in the marathon.
Was that after Valencia? Our mutual friend later told me that he thought Alex would try for the UK record but that wasn't based on anything he'd heard. And I saw a post race interview where Alex said it was back to the triathlon now.
I don't have any insider knowledge, but I picked up his interest in possibly focusing on the marathon in 2029 from a video 2 months ago (so, possibly out of date). He was clear, though, that this Olympic cycle it's all about tri.
Remember that homozygot comt val/met mutation is needed for chatting from cycling to running during triathlons. You can be the best runner or cyclist in the world, but if you are not one of those with the mutation then transitions will be difficult.
Lange and Yee are not the same. They never will be. Could they be? If Yee chucked it all and went to full IM? No. Yee is too scrawny to even try to match Lange. No watts. No power.
I can see him swimming at the front, riding 4:15 or so, and running 2:25 to 2:30. But I can also see that not being enough to win. He will lose 10+ minutes on the bike on a watts course, and be won't gain that much back on the best runners.
So yeah, don't get me wrong, I think he's going to be very good. I just don't know that he's guaranteed to blow everyone away
So add that together and that’s a winning time at Kona and a pretty good indication that yes, he would be good at long course
if you’re thinking he’s not ‘built’ for power on the bike that also has a flipside, hes going to be way more durable for terrible run conditions
look at womens kona this year, bike power and early leads meant nothing
