I'm assuming Redondo and Manhattan Beach have been training in the sand to get ready for these conditions. Do they do that in general? Does that explain why some of the better teams are from the beach cities?
I'm California native and root for any California team and runner.
There should be no excuses. You must find a way. Newbury Park did. They found a park near the school that was over watered and made the conditions like Portland. They trained at that park. So when there is a will there is a way. California has many parks that get over watered. Find one and train on it.

Oh, I want trying to make an excuse. I was generally curious and just observed that to CA teams tended to be from the coastline. I was genuinely curious if they use the beach as a training tool, especially when they know they will be in rough conditions
Bro they are bummed. They came to win and put their heart into the race. I feel bad for Caden, he's clearly going through it on the stands. Let the kids be emotional, in fact I love how seriously they take this.
You misunderstand. Even the Niwot kids didn’t celebrate and hardly smiled.
With what they put into this race, at the end they are physically spent. If they didn't toss their cookies at the line they feel like they are about to. I think what you are seeing is pure exhaustion. Once they get some fluids back in then, the celebration hits
For those who cannot watch live, Runnerspace had the full boys race -- with no mention of winner -- uploaded to YouTube by 11am PT, roughly 30 minutes after the race concluded.
Noticed no huge pool of water on the course like last year.
Also, no one slipped and fell, at least no fall caught on camera.
Boys were out conservative. Fries went hard from 2k thru about 3.5k which clearly cost him the last kilo. Spencer moved from a mile out and had the best kick at the end.
Expecting the girls race to look like a total opposite with so many front runners involved.
