Hey Henry,
Great to hear from you and that you are getting back to running! Some of the things are describing are worrisome given that you are challenging your body after such a long lay off.
Have you been to a doctor to check your heart function? Have you had any chest pain or left arm pain when you have this dizziness and cold sweats? Just to be sure, you really should go get everything checked out. We would all hate for you to suffer some setback like a heart attack or stroke!
I am just a med student, but this sounds like you should go get it checked out to be sure!
Best of luck to you!
Patti I have missed your upbeat posts and hope that all is well with you and your family. You have often been in my thoughts and I wonder what you are aiming towards as of now? You are right about faith, I have needed heavy doses of it in the journey to run injury free. Hope to see you back on the boards once in awhile, hello to Dan, Aaron and Raven....
Woo hoo! Patti's back!
Henry, this is a good omen. She inspired me to get going again and back into running this time around. She is sort of the good angel here on letsrun, and a legend in American Women's distance running.
Patti, welcome back! What's the word on your running? Will you be toeing the line, finally, in Hawaii this year?
Every time I buy chocolate chips, I think of you (remember, you sent me some about a year ago...YUMMY!)

Is that Patti Lyons-Catalano? She was awesome. A gutsy runner and one of the early greats on the roads.
Henry- I think the running community in Edmonton would like very much if you came back here. The 78 Commonwealth Games
were your Games. Keep training and keep in touch. KM
Dear Mr. Rono:
I wrote you some days ago, and saw your response, but I can't find it anywhere now for some reason.
If I understand correctly, you are constantly announced as an Olympic Champion and feel it is a nice title. This is very personal, but it is a debate that continues on LetsRun, but are you just being philosophical when you say 'it's just a nice title', or do would you have preferred to be Olympic Champion. World Record Holder is a pretty good title too--after all, to be the fastest, and first human being to cover a distance is a to be at the front of the pack, that is the whole human species.
Just curious,

By the way I got up feeling great this morning.I had hard time sleeping last night, the body was hot, turning around until I put air-cooling condition, then I say just for a few minutes because I don't want to have high PNM bills this month.I didn't get up, I slept through it got up feeling good.Only to find out the back door was open all-night and all-house is very cold.I look around the rooms no one came in anyway that was a good part.
"What is wrong with us?" asks my roommate.
"Did you hear me snooring last night?"
I ask my roommate.
No!said my roommate.
I think I'm going to approach it very careful today, perhaps lower-down minutes and don't even think about sauna thing. That is my plan for now.The rough day of yestarday and all-night;however, I didn't feel the last part of the night,I don't want to go through that again, please edited to make sense of these training conditions.
Henry
Henry.
I like sauna too, i go after run. i lose too much water and i takes me 3 days to feel good again,
Now im older, i watch my dogs to learn training.

sleep until sun goes down
and run again

To go back and answer your question of Olympics title,ha you right world record holder is great, but the thing here my sarounding expecially the kids sees me as Olympian and even the school principles introduces me as Gold medalist.
"Which olympics did you go?"asks the principal
It makes me uncomfortable talking about,no I didn't run olympics because of these and these, but I won two gold-medals in commonwealth-games in 1978,
What is that? asks one of the teacher,is that a British games with Kenya,Oh I thought you ran olympics, you look olympic runner. This not only the kids also big people.it goes back what I told you earlier that world records it means alot of things. It can't be only running.I'm the only knows who I' am.Then I look like I'm hidding something, because I don't want to talk about olympics.Couldn't you explain why I didn't run Olympics to people they don't understand.Even EL-Gurrouji sitting with me here in Feb.18,2005,he was also asking me questions as these kids basically. And looking up to me as his hero.but he wants to know, about this and that at the same time wants to break world records in 5k.I hope I talk enough about the status of titles.

Hi Henry, you may have heard of Ed Whitlock who is 74 years old and runs once a day, 2 or 3 hours/day at about a 9 min. mile pace or slower, if needed. For speed work, he just races about 30 times/year, usually 5Ks. He runs marathons under 3 hours and plans to be the first 75 year old man to break 3 hours this fall. I heard about him last year and I ran a lot of 2 hour runs every week. I lost a lot of weight and ran a decent marathon ( for me) with no speed work. As with you, I just wanted to loose the weight first before doing the speed stuff. Weight is a huge factor and I think its very important to get it down first. I use a bathroom scale to monitor my % body fat and I had a big drop in that as well as weight over the past year. Keep going. John
P.S. I'm 61 now and recently ran a 3:39 marathon
Henry, just one piece of wisdom that may help.
Ice baths! I ran back in the 70's and this was something we didn't ever think to utilize in our training. I coach HS kids now and we use them after every hard or long workout. It will help revitalize your legs. Fill your tub with cold water and as many trays of ice you have in your freezer and viola.
To van,
I like your style of training because it is the same as what I have been doing,I'm glad you answer my question very good. You undestand what going through with my training now.
Henry

Yes or have a warm shower then keep turning the water colder and rinsing all over especially legs. This drives the blood deep in your muscles for recovery. The hot baths are no good as they bring the blood to the surface, which drains the muscles and makes them get sore. Cold water is better than heat for recovery but don't have to soak in it a lot time. The key is to stay away from getting the muscles too hot. Shower and rinse with cold water then this speeds up recovery.
