my one week from MIAC champs pics-

55 - Liu, but Jones and Murnan will run something fast.

55 Hurdles - one of the Bethel guys.

200-400-600 - Nelson - Bethel needs the points. Kubicek may get his 400 qualifier chasing Grant. Lelinga will be second in the 600.

800 - Ihrke - I think the Oles go out too hard trying to qualify for Nationals and Big John cleans up the carnage with Owen second. Top five under 1:54. All the Oles can’t run, so someone like Indy or the Scholastica freshman will get 5th.

1000 - Ihrke - I think Cole goes 3K. Brauer is such a good doubler, I think he runs sub 2:30 for second.

Mile - Cole - Curious whether a fresh Brauer can be top 3. Bullock seems to be running well though.

3K - Cole - Cole goes the easier route of sitting on Gabe and Turlington. His superior speed proves the difference.

5K - Turlington, but Power will have him do something weird.

DMR - I think the Johnnies run Stencel and he runs just hard enough to win. Another reason to choose the 3K for a sit and kick.

Team standings - Bethel 185, St. Johns 160, Concordia 74, Olaf, 72, Scholastica, 65

I hope everyone runs well this weekend, wishing nothing but the best! Except for Lex Kaye from the Oles, he can eat sh*t and die.

I’d go with Cramer in the 60. Dude is on fire! Kubicek wins the 600 in alight use of over Ihrke. Ihrke wins the 800, but Owen is the only other non Ole scorer.

Stencel wins mile, DMR, and 3K.

Trent upsets Cooper in the best shot put comp the MIAC has ever seen. Should be a great vault too!

AOTW -

Men

Sprints - Grant Nelson. He looks primed to win whatever events he enters this week.

Mid Distance - John Ihrke is on a tear. He decimated a largely D1 field and secured his national qualifier at the U of M.

Distance - Cole continues to showcase Maxwell's coaching acumen. What an improvement for this unheralded high school recruit.

Jumps - Austin Schloeder seems to like jumping at St. Olaf. Austin vs. Evans and Bethel's super frosh Feig will be a fun one.

Throws - Cooper wins another D1 meet, so he gets the nod. Two Bethel underclassmen moved up in the rankings and seemed poised to score points to hold off the Johnnies in Ritz and Hageman.

Women

Sprints - Olson-Skog sets a Bethel school record as a freshman. An Ole long jumper set the Ole school record, but was .32 behind the Bethel sensation. Stein from Olaf also deserves some attention for setting a school record and taking the MIAC lead in the hurdles.

Mid Distance - Concordia's 4 x 400 set a school record and ranks 13th in the country.

Distance - Mya Slavin showcases her immense range winning the 1000 in a sub 3 effort at DII Mankato.

Jumps - The battle for top Pole Vaulter is heating up and Jaylyn Ahlberg of the Bennies and Bethel's Raina Kaping had quite a battle to tie at the Tostrud Classic at St. Olaf with 3.45 jumps.

Throws -Lexi Brainer took a commanding MIAC lead in the shot put at St. Olaf. She's half a meter ahead of any other thrower and ranks 17th in the country. Her top rival in the Weight Throw, Bethel's Anna Speratos now ranks 5th in the country finishing more than a meter ahead of Brainer who ranks 8th in the country.

MIAC Picks -

Field MVP - Women - Speratos, Bethel. Men - Beseth, St. Scholastica

Track MVP - Women - Rogahn-Press, Macalester. Men - Cole Stencel, St. John's narrowly edges Grant Nelson, Bethel. I really think this should be a tie.

Coach of the Year - Women - Andrew Rock, Bethel. Men - Todd Bouchie, St. Scholastica - this usually goes to the winning coach, but I think the MIAC coaches will reward Bouchie for battling Olaf for third.

Women's Top Five Teams - Bethel, Concordia, St. Olaf, Gustavus, Carleton

Men's Top Five Teams - Bethel, St. John's, St. Scholastica, St. Olaf, Concordia

Women is more likely Bethel, St. Olaf, Carleton, Concordia.

I think the Ole men beat St. Scholastica. The Saints score a ton of points in the throws, but the Bethel sprints and hurdles limit Kubicek and their freshman hurdler's ability to score massive points.

How long until the Ole AD tries to kick Bethel our for dominating like the Tommies. If rumors are true, if the men don't win then Power is in trouble. Lots of drama at Olaf!

Different Ole AD, President and different Coach when the Tommies were kicked out. And the precious Carleton AD & president had just as big of a role in that as anyone. The Tommies are thriving in several sports, so probably the best move. Looks like they’re still trying to figure out football, but that will come.

I'm still surprised the move to 8 per school was a unanimous vote a few years ago.

Anyone notice Rowan’s D3 record was run with a cut-in just like the women in the MIAC?

Shaping up to be an interesting conference championship. I see a path for Bethel, St. John's and Olaf. How much will Bethel use Nelson - 4 x 200, 4 x 400, 200, 400, and maybe a 600? Will Liu race?

How much can Cole Stencel do? I see mile, DMR, 3K but he will have to be at his best if the Turlington can tempo the 5K. I can also see the Oles load Turlington up with the Mile, 5K, 3K or 5K, DMR, 3K - all seem manageable with an easy 5K path.

Will anyone attempt to match the Lars/Calvin endeavors of 2024?

One guy I don't think is getting mentioned enough on this thread is Jameson Drieslein of Olaf

People forget he WON his heat of the 1k at indoor conference last year, kid knows how to race to win, its not just about the glamorous times.

The only downside to his game is his haircut making him look like the OG 6-7 kid, but other than that you should expect to hear that name all around the miac for the next couple years

Do not count out my boy Isaiah Fitzgerald. Does a 4:30 mile at Mankato, just to run a workout right after. No one works harder than him and no one in the Miac is touching him in the distance events at conference.

I'm with you. Fitz is looking good, and I mean really good, like, I'm bricked up good. I can't wait to gaze longingly at his sculpted physique while he's ripping Turlington and Stencel to shreds this weekend. Maybe after I'll ask for his number. I hope he swings that way.

DMR picks? Not sure anyone can challenge the Johnnies. Oles always seem to choke and have too many individuals seeking their own glory. Carls don’t have the depth, but the younguns could surprise. Mac won’t waste Ihrke. Bethel doesn’t have Graber. Maybe Gusties double Brauer. He’s done it all year.

At least 1 spectator comes to watch the meet: (Sunday afternoon on this thread:) "Heard a rumor while creeping up behind Power that...."

Dave Ricks is the last petty coach to hold the meet up, lying down on the track before the 4 x 400 to demand it be reseeded.

Oles haven't been worse than third since before Covid.

I hope Landen runs 7.5! I hope Cooper and Trent throw close to 20 meters.

Stencel vs. Turlington with a home track Gabe could be really nice. I hope all the doubles Braun has done this year pay off.

And I expect High Jump to be quite the battle.

Hopefully Fast Finish Results has no errors and teams have somewhere to sit.

First looks at entries -

No Beseth is a shame for the sport. Hope he heals for Nationals.

Kubicek is doing it all. Wonder how many relays they will have him run.

Cole vs. Ihrke in the K will be one for the ages.

DMR - looks like St. John's will run Stencel, and fresh St. Peter. If I am Maxwell I let Cole run away on the 1200 and let the team lead the rest of the race. I don't think the Oles stand a chance even if they run Turlington. His best this season is 4:18, which puts them him seconds back of Cole at best.

Is Lyness healthy? He's my darkhorse to be top 3 in the mile/K. He has the second best kick in the MIAC after Cole and actually has run faster for 800/1500.

Looks like several fieldhouse records are in jeopardy. Why is the long jump record so good?
