Only time will tell, but it's possible that Sydney challenging Paulino has busted open this event, in the same way that Sydney and Muhammad busted open the 400m hurdles.
In hurdles, the 52 second barrier was impregnable for decades, and then Syd and Muhammad both did it, then Bol did it, then Cockrell, with Jasmine Jones getting close.
In the 400 flat, 47 hadn't been breached for decades, and now two women did it, in Syd's first 400 flat championship meet. Maybe the ceiling has been broken and we'll start seeing other 47 second 400s again.

to your point, Naser said this yesterday:
“I think that very soon the women’s 400 world record will be broken,” Naser said. “I never thought of it before, but after tonight’s race I can see that the world record is around the corner.”
Darn. I thought she was talking about Ryan Crouser. Only 5 throws in competition all season. And he really only needed two to be world champion
so, Sydney's training partner and pacer is a 45-sec quarter-miler man. so this means, during practice, her competition is more fierce than when racing at Worlds or the Olympics.
maybe some fans want to see more of Sydney for even the insignificant races. but Sydney doesn't need the races in order to sharpen her talent.
She says she feels like "a winner" not "the winner" -- which is a completely different statement.
Still casting shade on never-race McLaughlin. lol

EXACTLY.
She said she feels like a winner. She raced a great season, and to hear it's not only about one race.
LR drama queens losing it over words they don't even understand lol
"A" winner or "the" winner is irrelevant and not the part where she disses Sydney. No one believed that she was saying she won the race, saying she is a winner or the winner conveys the same thing which is that she feels good about herself, her effort and her performance. The diss is about running only 2 times a year, which she said in different ways 2 times. There is no reason for her to make that comment unless it was her being critical of Sydney, That's the diss. Use your brain.

Imagine if Mu were doing this same training with her rn? what a loss.
By Syds own description, she has a very extensive personal support system, albeit well earned, that is simply out of reach for an athlete like Paulino who is from a small relatively poor country. It is natural for the latter to have at least a small chip on her shoulder given the differences. Just part of the reality of a global sport like ours.
Rich country, poor country is not the issue. Sydney performs at a top tier level, along with Katie Ledecky, Bolt, and Faith Kipyegon.
Sydney races against herself and the clock. Paulino only races to win. Two very different mindsets. I've never seen Paulino attempt a WR or sub 48. She usually runs moderately fast the first 200m and then uses her top end speed to get into front of anyone she may have to beat. But that is it. That is her job -- just to win. And thus, she will only be as good as her competition.
Sydney has a completely different standard. And honestly, I say Katie Ledecky is closest to her in that mentality.
More than just "rich v. poor", it is also the extended network of coaches, PT, even a personal pacer for hard sessions. And clearly her personal network is fully on board. And she has been at the top level more than twice as long as Marleidy.
Paulino has to play the game on different terms. So far her apples can't beat Syds oranges.
I actually don’t mind that Sydney races a handful of times per year. She always brings her A-game when she steps to the line, which means she is still serious about this sht.
She doesn't only race a handful of times per year. This was her 12th race of the year.
I don't understand this frequent commentary about her. She graduated in 2018. Since then, she's raced between 10 and 17 times each year from 2019 to 2025 with 2 exceptions: 2020 (everything got cancelled) and 2023 (6 races, pulled out of world champs due to knee injury). Her other years have been 14, 17, 10, 15, and 12 races.
Note: I'm not a big fan of SML, but at least let's keep the commentary valid.
Lets keep it valid then! Whether you like her or not is irrelevant so don't mention it. Let's keep it valid.

The use your brain dummy. When one over analyzes like you, you're more stupid than you think. get a brain!!
Looks like Paulino really doesn't like to lose. Now, is that a good thing or a bad thing, a matter of perspective.
But I get the feeling this race lit a fire under her. She's going to be training with even more focus... and if there are no injuries to either, I think the WR is going down soon.
Does anyone else remember when after the Tokyo 2021 400m final, Stephenie Ann McPherson came 4th and personally went over after the race to congratulate Miller Uibo and Felix but then ignored Paulino. Then she fell to the ground and started screaming "they're on steroids!!!" and had to be consoled by her teammate, Candice McLeod?
This moment is literally on YouTube and I'm always surprised it's never been seriously mentioned as Paulino has improved year on year.
Starts pretty much from 9:00 on the YouTube Replay:

I hear you, but i chuckle to myself, because had Sydney beat the WR and run something like a 47.69, Paulino would still say the same thing and give Sydney that dry-ass handshake she gave at the end of the race. .... haha, Paulino was being herself, lost some fans, and failed to see this historical moment that all of mankind has rallied behind.

They're both juiced anyhow. Anyone who can come close to that record is as dirty as the one who set it...it's within a second of placing in the D2 men's 400 NCAA final against men who are bigger and stronger with more fast twitch muscle and less body fat. It's a joke.
