He’s like a better version of Klecker on the track. He can make the 10k team and run impressive times; he’s not going to be competitive in the last lap of a global championship. Ever. I will keep bumping this thread for years every time I’m proven right
I think the flaw in your original post is well demonstrated in this comparison with Joe klecker, I.e. that graham is a bit too big of a guy to run a really really fast marathon. I think the 5/10 is his sweet spot and I think he and Joe will struggle over the full 42.2k distance. Being an aerobic beast does not a marathoner make!

His frame is not as big as Klecker’s. Rupp was a big guy for a marathoner and ended up winning an Olympic medal (and could have accomplished more if he had moved to the marathon in 2014 instead of 2016).

Forgot to mention Ryan Hall here as well. Hall had a bigger frame than Blanks.
After world XC and that Millrose 2-mile, it like my original take is aging like fine wine. Gault basically articulated the same idea in this week’s podcast. Graham doesn’t have the wheels to compete for medals in the 5k-10k. The sooner he accepts this and gives the roads a shot, the more successful he’ll be. It’s too bad he’s not running the NYC Half next month.

Give it a rest. The guy ran 12:48 and will go way lower this year in the DL. He is just getting started and will do well in fast races in Europe. I’m sure he is set on the 10k for 28 and will probably run a half next year. Not even close to time to go the marathon. He could easily make the 5k team for ultimates this year as he is ranked top ten in world rankings. And is a huge favorite for the 10k team in 28. The marathon will come but would not be smart at the moment.
You wouldn't say this about a 12:30s guy, yet lots of guys after their first pro year drop more than the 9 seconds Blanks would need to make that happen.
