Everyone at the elite starts I’ve met has been supportive and kind. This is how you know the people who spend their spare time being terrible people online and think it’s okay simply because it’s anonymous are slow. Grow up dude
Of course they are nice to your face. But reality is they are thinking Mr 2:21 can't even keep up with USA women OTQ marathoners. Or is that " bullying" to you and need a "mental break".
My college teammate was one of the original Nike Athletics team members. I knew on my 1st college team morning "easy" run there was no way I would EVER run as fast as him. Better take advantage of the scholarship and get a degree that will make money. Bob Kempianen and few others realised it and knew to move on.
You need to grow up snowflake and get out of mums basement. BTW you can even get medal for "crushing " that.

You think people chasing an OTQ are running for a career? Lol. Being weird to strangers online as a hobby in your spare time is a choice.
A 2:21 marathon guy is ranked #106 right now in the USA. Good for that dude, he didn’t move on and choose a career over running (aka quit). He’s probably making a good living AND training like an animal. I’d love to see a guy like that get a swing at it. I’m sure most people who have a normal relationship to their fellow runners would.
Japan infrastructure with 50% time off work and the relays should work for American post-collegiates empolyed at corporations. Make running a team sport in America, where power is peacefully transferred. If your sub-elite corporate team wins, then that could be good publicity for the corporation. Won't hurt to ask your boss, especially if he/she does endurance sport.
since when is the usatf even mildly interested in athlete's needs?
And yet it isn't the women who have demonstrable difficulty hitting the OG standard, whether time or ranking. It's the men. Even though the OT standards are aimed to field sizes, the men need a tougher standard.
I do think some context is necessary. World Athletics wants half the spots to be by their rankings. But last year there were so many women who hit the Olympic standard that there were no spots decided on world ranking. And only 6 universality places.
The men's standard is going down by a rumored 1:40. The women's should go down by over 2.5 minutes if World Athletics really wants spots to be determined based on world rankings.
The World's an Olympics are fundamentally differed. The Olympics have a tight constraint on total participation..WCs the constraint is no more than three per country

I think you are confused...
World Athletics sets the Olympic Standard low intentionally so that some marathon spots will have to be decided by World Ranking, because they want people to value placement in World Rankings.
Last cycle, the women's standard was too high, so no one qualified for the Olympics based on world ranking. They are likely going to lower the women's number substantially, so that some women will have to qualify based on world ranking.
So the commentor pointed out that the men struggled with the Olympic standard, the women did not. Which is true. But in the context of the last qualification cycle, that's because World Athletics set the women's standard comparably easier, and by the standards of World Athletics and their goals of emphasizing World Rankings, it was too easy.
I'm not sure what relevance this has with the World Championships that you seem to be talking about.

Emily's AR 2:18 is about 3 minutes AHEAD of "Mr.2:21"
Ruth's WR 2:09 is about 11 minutes AHEAD of "Mr.2:21"
"Swing at it" ? Mr.2:21 isn't even in the stadium.Let alone at.the plate.
Raise your glass.to Emily and Ruth for being in the top 100 US mens list and kicking the majority of USA mens behinds.
Murphy Smith just won Gary Bjorkland (grandma's) half marathon in 62:49. Just two weeks after his 13th place at ncaa nationals in the 10k. If he can run under 63 again he will qualify for the trials. Interesting to see more and more ncaa runners move up quick, surely we will see Creed Thompson with a quick time this fall as well.

What’s your PR big shot?
We're fans of the sport here, our perspectives can be informed without hitting the marks ourselves. 2:21 is impressive but shouldn't be included in a selection race for the men's Olympic team. Sorry, not sorry.
If no open race then rampant corruption is a wild leap.
Im a big proponent of the way the US does things, btw. The trials are great. The major downside is that someone like Mantz gets the flu the week of, and our best marathoner doesn’t make the team. That would be awful. Very much in the realm of possibility too! I think some combination of scoring from previous races and the trials would be better than the current system, but would be difficult to implement fairly.
But if he doesn't have to race, how do we know he is still what we think he is? He could be out of shape and claim he has the flu. No, imperfect as it is, it's still fairest to make 'em earn their spot.
His PR is in his tag line. Breaking four hours was a huge deal for him. He is very proud of his 3:49! PR. To him it's way more impressive than your neg split 2:21.

Never said 2:20* (not 2:21) should make the trials. Sorry, not sorry
So 15 minutes off the WR vs 27 off the WR. How fair!
A slightly fairer comparison is to go based on percentage.
The men's standard is 12.78% slower than the world record and 8.25% slower than the American record.
The womens is 20.83% slower than the world record and 13.37% slower than the American record.
Crazy that the men's standard is closer to the world record than the women's record is to the American record. However, this does reflect the state of marathon in the US as the main goal is to get an equal number of competitors.
You could make the same argument that 2:16 is too slow for the men's standard as well because 8 women have ran faster than that time.
My ideal would be to have 100 men and 100 women for each field. Still a large field but more elite than mass participation.
Why not just have 1 race for men and women (and transgender individuals should they wish to compete but they cannot be selected for the women's team) with a 2h 30 min standard?
Just for fun, who are your top 3 American men at the moment?
Conner Mantz
Clayton Young
Biya Simbassa
Then probably:
Wesley Kiptoo
Would like to see what Alex Maier can do at NYC? Klecker could have a breakthrough finally at 26.2. I beleive Charles Hicks also running NYC
Matthew Richtman is kind of a mystery again.
Ford, Colley, and Rupp ran decent, but too many bunched together to make any separation. Reed Fischer could have been sub 2:10 at Chicago as well.
Then we have Aidan Troutner with an impressive debut. Wow didn't realize CJ doubled back from Worlds that quick, what an animal. Have to give Colin Micknow a shout, coming into good form after getting 6th at Chicago way back in 2021 and now running mid 2:11.
Other mysteries at the moment: Lenny Korir, Zach Panning, and Sam Chelenga

CJ has run 8 marathons in 13 months or so. Dude needs to relax. #QualityNotQuantity
Valencia marathon will have a good amount of american men this year beyond those who were already announced. Could be interesting if that group runs better than US group at Chicago.

There you are again, who's running besides Clayton? CJ again? Reed Fischer? Conner Mantz?! Matthew Richtman?
